About this ebook
This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Spiritual Identity are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore nine topics, from different verses in the books of Jeremiah and Lamentation. They are: The Lord my identity; Not the Lord’s; How to be a waistband; Is age overrated?; Persecuted for truth; The yoke of Babylon; Defining REST; Living without gates or bars; and bearing the yoke.
Excerpts:
The Lord my identity
“How you see yourself relates to what you pursue. A lifetime of pursuit of God is the indication that your heart is in the right place, your ornaments are on you as a virgin, your dress is on you as a bride.”
Not the Lord’s
“Starting with the point of salvation, the Lord’s doings in you are expressed in the output of grace, in the character of his son Jesus Christ in you and in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit you enjoy. These are the Lord’s, making you a new creature (2Corinthians 5:17). His works are marvellous (Psalm 118:23) in our eyes and commands his attention and protection. Anything else is rejected by him; they carry the same seed of rebellion sown by Adam in the Garden of Eden.”
How to be a waistband
“Christ in you produces these effects as long as you are yielding to him. You are not a waistband if you are not yielded (Romans 6:13, 16, 19). There is an inherent yielded-ness in the waistband that helps it perform its role of dependence, association and commitment to the owner, well.”
Is age overrated?
“And the Spirit that has been sent to us is the Spirit of adoption and enter into a relationship with God, calling him father (Romans 8:15). Jesus taught us to pray: our father in heaven, hallowed be your name (Matthew 6:9). God is no longer afar off but within us, we get to experience who he is, how he is, we get to become him.”
Persecuted for truth
“When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were told to bow down and worship the image made by great king Nebuchadnezzar on the fear of being thrown alive into a burning furnace. They called the bluff of the King. Though persecuted for truth, they came out on the top and they were preserved supernaturally when they were thrown into the furnace. When they did not bend in their commitment to truth even though persecuted, the king bent to their God (Daniel 3).”
The yoke of Babylon
“He did not have to be in the temple 24/7 to become a prophet of God. So don’t say you are the governor now, or a president, and lose your identity as a child of God. Even in engaging Babylon in the work place, in the legal system of the nations of the world, in the political space, in the technological advancements, in social relevance, you should still do it with full regalia of spiritual functionality and pursuit of God and his kingdom agenda though your life. You should still be light.”
Defining REST
“We are transformed inside out, we are transformed as we serve and know him. The transformation is not apart from him, it is because of him. It is energised by him, directed to him, enabled by him. We are for his glory, to express his holiness, and for his praise (Isaiah 53).”
Living without gates or bars
“The grace of God also comes in through the gate in the word of God (Acts 20:32). Your constant engagement with the word of God, meditating on it, listening to it, reading it, would create dynamism in you, that freshness, that vibrancy that makes you a beehive of spiritual activities with your “sting” in you, your guards up and your energy prepped, making you unattractive for an opportunistic takeover by the enemy’s armies.”
