    Jungle Odyssey is a soldier’s ‘Shikar’ biography. Glimpses of experiences with his father the ‘Deva-Pitta’ of these stories perhaps are the defining events that qualify him as a “Jungle Salt”. Soldering closely enabled him to retain his lifelong interest in Wildlife – the fauna – flora of our vast subcontinental size country.

    It has been a fulsome life that exposed him to the Jungle lore and the beauty of its jungle and wildlife.

    Major General Ashok Kalyan Verma, the author of “Jungle Odyssey – A Soldier’s Memoirs”, has been a prominent figure in The Rajput Regiment. Many years my elder, he has been a role model and noticeable officer in almost every rank he has held from his early years. Both he and his younger brother, Colonel Vijay, served in several Battalions of the Regiment and were both greatly admired by the rank and file, and were well known for their wider interest in Wildlife and Shikar.
