Beschreibung

In exchange for her body she'll be granted her heart's desire.

Flora Dale makes a deal with an alien. In exchange for her body she'll be granted her heart's desire—to become a famous movie actress. She's given three years to enjoy her success before the alien returns to claim her.

Held on board a spaceship in a small cage, Flora discovers she's been duped. Believing she had agreed to one night, she's shocked when she finds out the term is actually for ten years.

Surprisingly, the alien exchanges Flora for space crystals, and she finds herself in the hands of another extraterrestrial. Gator, the huge, handsome man Flora believes has rescued her, actually has another plan in mind. He intends to swap Flora for the woman he loves who has been kidnapped by a ruthless space gang.

Flora is determined to change her fate, especially when she discovers Gator's love is a robot. She will show Gator—using whatever means necessary—that the human touch can make him forget all about his glorified machine.

Chapter 1

You know how you hear of making a deal with the Devil and it always turns out terrible? Years of watching Supernatural should have forewarned me never to do it. Not that I did do it. I was smarter than that. Satan always wants your soul in exchange for making your dreams come true. I did want the ‘dream come true’ part, but I wasn’t willing to give up my soul. My body, however, was a different story.

I wanted something really bad—bad enough to make me consider making a deal with the King of Hell himself. Or at least someone just as bad. An alien to be exact.

For years, I’d struggled to be an actress. A famous movie actress. I studied lines and auditioned my heart out only to be told ‘no’ time and again. The more I got rejected, the more determined I was to succeed. Casting directors, producers, not to mention numerous agents, kicked me to the curb. ‘Not quite right for us’, ‘Too tall/short/thin/curvy’, ‘Thanks but no thanks’, or just outright ‘No way’, met me on a daily basis. Until one day when I stumbled upon a website promising to make my dream a reality. Any dream really. I didn’t have to order stuff or kill anything to make it happen. There were some rhyming words to say, but not until after the ritual was performed.

The moon had to be full, or as close to being full as possible. Grass had to be beneath me, and I had to stand on something metal, which in turn rested on the grass. In one hand, I had to hold some kind of working electrical device such as a radio, a cellphone, camera, iPad, iPod, or whatever. In the other hand, a clump of earth.

So three years ago I stood on the lid of my trashcan in my backyard, like a human lightning rod, praying it wouldn’t rain. It was late at night and the moon was high. It was summertime, so the air was warm. My neighbors were in bed, and I’d turned out all the lights in my tiny rented house. My spell stuff was ready on the porch or on the counter in my kitchen by the back door. I’d gathered it up and slunk like a thief into my own yard.

For ten minutes, I stood there and waited, just as the website instructed. Then, when I felt a tiny wave of friction in the palm of my hand from the little radio, I said the words I’d memorized.

"I call to the heavens, the stars, and sky,

Come forth to me, hear my cry.

Bring to me my heart’s desire.

Grant my wish, set it afire."

And, as promised on the website, a static voice emitted from the radio. Eerily, it whispered, What is it you wish?

To be a famous movie actress, I whispered back.

What shall you offer in exchange?

"My
