Scarlett Emit’s life changed the moment Uncle Luke came down Carriage Street. Of course, she wasn’t aware of it then, but it would become evident as the years went by. At the time, Scarlett was only four years old and her world revolved around her Mama. There was no father around He’d left barely six months earlier, chasing a life outside of the small, suburban town that Carriage Street resided in.
Many would consider Scarlett lonely and many considered her Mama to be more so. On that fateful day, Mama was curled up by herself on the couch in the living room of the two bedroom house. Her fingers worked away busily on her knitting project, but her eyes were lifeless as her mind went blank, performing a task that was common to it.
