Preface
It seems as if most people do understand tithes, but most of them differ in their understanding. Many people have got questions about tithes, questions such as What is a tithe?
, Is it law or not to pay a tithe?
Why should we pay tithes? I think the question that needs to be answered mostly is the question that says, Why should we pay tithes?
Even though I am going to address all these questions, the most important one is Why should we pay tithes?
Most Christians do understand the meaning of tithes but they deliberately refuse to pay tithes. That refusal to pay tithes has got negative consequences towards a life being lived by Christians in this world. This negligence has caused a huge and incalculable loss. This loss brings calamity to the church, Christians, families, businesses and the world at large. As a result of this negligence most Christians are powerless and poor. It is of great question that Christians are powerless and weak during the time of Christ's Kingdom. Abraham and Israelites were strong spiritually and economically, one deserves to ponder about why Christians are weak and not being influential in this world? Isn't this the world created by God whom we worship and who is the owner of everything? What went wrong? The matter lies in paying tithes, which is a biblical way of maintaining the blessings given by God.

Chapter 1
The origin of tithes
Tithes originated from the book of Genesis, being practiced by Abraham our father of faith. This began to take place in the book of Genesis chapter 14 vs. 17-23; let's read it; 17 After Abram returned from defeating Kerdolaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the valley of Shaveh (that is, the king's valley). 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20 And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. 21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.
22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heavens and earth and have taken an oath, 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or a thong of sandals, so that you will never be able to say', 'I have made Abram rich'. This is where the origin of paying tithes began and it is clear that tithes did not come as the law, for Abraham was not under the law. The blessing of Abraham was not maintained by the law but by paying tithes through faith and grace. Paying of tithes was a way of giving thanks to God for the blessings being obtained from Him. Seemingly Abraham was teaching us the way in which we should do in order for a blessing to be conserved and circulate. As we have seen in nowadays that the blessings upon our lives don't reach a level of progression and steady growth, most of the time. Abraham was the man of faith and obedience to God; he was showing God his faith and obedience. This is what we need to do as Christians, we need to show our God gratitude in what He has given us. Abraham gave his tithes after he defeated some kings, and we know that after he defeated those kings he looted them as well. In other words Abraham gave tithes in recognition of God as the source of his provision being grateful towards God. Hence I say, 'not paying tithes is being ungrateful towards God who provided for you.' We must realize we came naked in this world having nothing, but God has given us what we have and we need to acknowledge him. In verse 18-20 we see Melchizedech king of Salem blessing Abraham and Abraham in turn gives him a tenth of everything. This is how a tenth began in the Bible and this shows that, this was the life style of Abram.
This trend continued even by Abraham's grandson by the name of Jacob. We hear another vow by Jacob which is about paying tithes unto God in Genesis 28 vs. 16-22: 16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, Surely the Lord is in this place
, and I was not aware of it. 17 He was afraid and said,
How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven." 18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his hand and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. 19 He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz. 20 Then Jacob made a
