About this ebook

When I looked for help to configure service contracts. I quickly realized there was a gap in the material. There was very little material that talked about Service contracts. I could find bits and pieces about billing plans, revenue recognition or contracts, but nothing to give me the full picture. So I decided to pull it all together into one place.
This book is both how to manual and a reference guide. The idea is that the initial sections of the book will provide you with a quick start guide to implementing service contracts. Then I provide a walk through to see how the process will look for the user, and finally all the individual pieces of configuration that make up the process. It will guide you through the configuration in all of the following areas:
* Service Contracts
* Service Notifications
* Billing Plans
* Revenue Recognition
* Reporting
This is THE comprehensive guide to SAP Service Contract configuration. If I missed anything you need to know, let me know and I'll add it to the book.

    Introduction

    The topic of service contracts has long been a mystery to many people. Possibly because it deals with multiple different modules, or maybe just because it has the word service in it. Regardless, trying to understand all the functionality within SAP contracts and how they relate to service has been difficult to find.

    So I decided that I could not be the only one looking for more information in the field, so I decided that documenting the configuration and processing of service contracts might be something that other people would like to learn too. I hope you find it useful.

    How to read this book

    The majority of this book should be used a reference guide. I expect very few people to read this from start to finish. This book will provide you the ins and outs of using service contracts, and attempt to give you the best practice for using service contracts.

    You’ll notice that in the scenarios section, certain sections have an asterisk after them (*). Those are the sections I believe you MUST configure every time you setup service contracts. While some of them may only need to be configured once for an entire company, all of them must be configured at least once for each implementation.

    That’s not to say that the other sections are less important. Just they contain features that may or may not be useful to an implementation. If you want to get the most out of service contracts, I encourage you to look through everything. But if you’re in a hurry and want to get service contracts up and running right now, pay close attention to each section with the (*).

    The Service Contract

    What is it?

    At its simplest, it is a sales document within SAP. But that really doesn’t do it justice. The service contract is more than a simple sales document. It contains the start and end dates for your coverage beyond what the general equipment record will give you. You can assign serial numbers to the document so that it will become a part of the serial number history and allow it to be found by service notifications, and of course, it
