About this ebook

In this second book of the Owl Tale Series you will meet eight different princes: Charles, who has an eating disorder; Rolf, who can't stay off his cell phone; John, who has debilitating nightmares; Jose, who is bullied; Carl, who loves to dance; Edgar, who has trouble communicating; and Harry, who longs to see his absent father. Each young man faces challenges and finds support in his family or community, and from a family pet, Ozzie Owl. He plays a significant role in each story and uses his extraordinary powers to help the prince. Today families take many different forms. Some families have an absent parent, or may be blended. Children from broken families often have difficulties in school and social interactions. They may let their feelings be widely known or hide their true feelings. Teens may retreat from the world, or even wish to run away from home. Others find themselves left out, bullied or treated differently because of their ethnicity, religion or appearance. I wrote these tales in fairy tale form to facilitate discussion of these issues with parents, teachers, counselors, and therapists.

    About Rebecca Steritz

    Preface

I was inspired to write these stories by my personal observations of family, friends, and students, and by current events.

In this book you will meet eight different princes: Charles, who has an eating disorder; Rolf, who can’t stay off his cell phone; John, who has debilitating nightmares; José, who is bullied; Carl, who loves to dance; Edgar, who has trouble communicating; and Harry, who longs to see his absent father. One of these princes could be someone you know. One of them could be you!

Today families take many different forms. Some families have an absent father or mother, or they may be blended families. Children from broken families often have difficulties in school and social interactions. They may let their feelings be widely known or hide their true feelings. They may retreat from the world, or even wish to run away from home. Others may find themselves left out, bullied or treated differently because of their ethnicity, religion, or appearance.

My purpose in publishing this series was to present common problems in fairy tale settings so that teens might more easily discuss them with parents, teachers, counselors and therapists. Please remember that while these tales have quick, happy endings, in real life problems may take more time to resolve.

I call these stories my OWL TALES. The name comes from my initials, LWO, and from the character Ozzie Owl, who plays a significant role in each of the eight fairy tales. After reading each story be sure to read and answer the Discussion Questions at the end of the book. Also, look for more OWL TALES
