      The Unicorn Riders of Avamay

      Under the guidance of their leader, Jala, the Unicorn Riders and their magical unicorns protect the Kingdom of Avamay from the threats of evil Lord Valerian.

      Decades ago, Lord Valerian forcefully took over the neighboring kingdom of Obeera. He began capturing every magical creature across the eight kingdoms. Luckily, King Perry saved four of Avamay’s unicorns. He asked the unicorns to help protect Avamay. And that’s when ordinary girls were chosen to be the first Unicorn Riders.

      A Rider is chosen when her name and likeness appear in The Choosing Book, which is guarded by Jala. It holds the details of all the past, present, and future Riders. No one can see who the future Riders will be until it is time for a new Rider to be chosen. Only then will The Choosing Book display her details.

      The Unicorn Riders’ World

      • CHAPTER 1 •

      WITH HER LONG HAIR streaming behind her, Krystal rode Estrella into the village square. Behold Estrella, Avamay’s most dazzling unicorn! she cried. Watch her perform her tricks. Admire her stunning beauty!

      The crowd parted, forming a circle around Krystal and Estrella. Krystal had spent hours combing her unicorn’s coat and braiding her golden mane and tail with ribbons. She hoped the people of Stillmet would be impressed.

      Stillmet sat at the base of the Effervescent Falls. It was a poor village. Recently a terrible flood had washed through it, damaging many of the houses in its path. Queen Heart had sent the Riders to help.

      Estrella whinnied, rising onto her hind legs while Krystal clung to her back. With every nudge of Krystal’s knees the unicorn obeyed — stepping, rearing, and turning like a dancer.

      The crowd gasped in wonder. Krystal smiled. She had wanted to make them happy. They’d had such a terrible time lately.

      E, use your magic, Krystal whispered.

      Every unicorn had a special skill. Estrella’s was the ability to enchant others. Now, as Krystal held one hand high, Estrella pirouetted on her hind legs and sent a shower of magical sparks from her pearl horn over the crowd.

      Amazing! they exclaimed. Breathtaking!

      Estrella landed on all fours. Her pearly-white sparks dissolved, breaking the spell. The crowd clapped and cheered. Krystal slid off Estrella and greeted the villagers, shaking hands with many of them.

      How wonderful it is to make others happy, Krystal thought.
