About this ebook

The adult psychiatric crisis unit is a volatile and sometimes dangerous place to work. Carly has been a nurse working the unit for years and is good at it. She has seen just about everything - until one day she sees something even she isn't prepared for! A patient dies in a most horrendous fashion right in front of Carly, and Carly is left with trying to make sense of it all. But the more she looks into the deceased patient's life, the more she questions one thing: Was the patient's death an anomaly, or was it murder? The answer will drive Carly to the furthest reaches of who she is, and it may destroy her.

Your favorite client is back, Charles said to Carly as she walked onto the unit, her oversized purse slung over her left shoulder. Her thick, black hair fell into her face as she set it down on the counter behind the Nurses’ Station.

Can’t you let me get in before you hit me up with this?" she asked, her tone with more than a bit of venom in it. She brushed her hair out of her face and walked to the report room. Charles laughed to himself, and stood up from his chair. Charles was big, by everyone’s standards, his actual height only guessed at, but believed by everybody to be at least over seven feet tall. Not only was he tall, his body didn’t have a bit of fat that didn’t belong, making him look more like his Viking ancestors than most of his kin. He moved silently to the report room watching the door close as Carly disappeared into the room. He unlocked the door and went in after her.

The room was small, a table dominating the room with folding chairs surrounding it, leaving just enough room to squeeze in and sit down. Carly was busy pulling the report sheets and her pens out to prepare for the report. Already seated were two of the three mental health techs, Jimi and Marcus. Lenny had yet to show, which was normal for him. The other nurse, Ashley, was seated on the right side of the table, between the techs, reading a note left to her from the program manager. Carly was seated on the left, closest to the wall on the far side of the room.

Don’t you want to know who it is, Carly? Charles asked, smiling his big,
