Welcome to the amazing world of origami magic—a world where the impossible is made to appear possible. Discover how, with just a few sheets of paper and one or two other everyday materials found around the home (or available from any good stationery store), you can create the kind of magic that will entertain, astound and truly bewilder your family and friends. This exciting book is packed with paper folds to create mystifying puzzles, amazing tricks and fantastic illusions. With wonders like these, you can enter the realms of magic.
The development of paper folding in the West can be traced back to a company of Japanese jugglers who visited Europe in the 1860s. The jugglers brought with them the method for folding a flapping bird,
and soon directions on how to make this—along with other puzzling folds—were appearing in various European publications. Later, many famous magicians—including David Devant, Harry Houdini, Cy Endfield and Robert Harbin—became especially interested in paper folding, attesting to the link between origami and magic, which still continues to this day.
The Origami Projects
The projects in this kit are divided into four groups:
• Amazing Tricks—Prepare to be astonished as all kinds of things are made to happen from just a single sheet of paper. That in itself is quite a trick!
• Perplexing Puzzles—Make paper replicas of traditional puzzles that will tease, baffle and delight anyone who tries to solve them.
• Impossible Illusions—Discover paper illusions that appear to defy belief and will keep your audience guessing!
• Mysterious Transformations—Learn traditional cutting, tearing and folding techniques that have been impressing audiences for years.
With origami magic, presentation is key. Simply knowing the secret of a trick or puzzle won’t make you a good magician—you need to try it out in private, several times, before attempting your performance. Practice the moves until you can perform a trick sufficiently well without looking at your hands and disclosing its secret. Look at your audience with a warm smile on your face and make them believe, through your movements, words and
