    I'm relying more and more on my slow cooker these days since a paleo diet is cooking from scratch! I'm also a full time nurse working 12hr shifts and watch my toddler gson on my days off and married to an Iowa farm boy! So I'm busy as heck and trying to make sure there's a healthy paleo meal available even on nights I don't get home till 730pm!
    These recipes are totally doable, no weird ingredients, nothing expensive or complicated! love it!
    One star removed for the beans mentioned on the soup and stew section and for the nearly duplicate recipes found in the Keto slow cooker book ;)
    Otherwise, both books are thumbs up!

1. A Match Made In Heaven

The Paleo diet and the slow cooker—a match made in heaven. I love the Paleo diet because it allows me to enjoy delicious foods without having to count calories or restrict carbohydrates, all while losing weight, protecting my body against disease, and enjoying whole, life-giving foods. I love those flavorful, nutrient-rich meats that keep me so full and satisfied, and I love the rainbow of vegetables that nourish and revitalize me. I love not feeling restricted or deprived. I love the lack of sugar cravings (FINALLY!) and the increase in energy.

And I’m not too macho to admit that I love my slow cooker. It’s one of the best, most convenient appliances in my kitchen, and something that I use nearly every day. I love that all I have to do is fill it up and turn it on, and before too long, my house is filled with the amazing, rich fragrance of a hearty, mouth-watering meal. I love that it’s so versatile, cooking with ease everything from roasts to soups to casseroles to fudge. I love that it’s one of the simplest and safest means of cooking in my kitchen and that I don’t have to worry about leaving it unattended for hours at a time, even for the whole day. 

And, most of all, I love that my slow cooker has made my Paleo lifestyle even easier and more rewarding. Paleo recipes, which are very often rich in fat and protein, lend themselves amazingly well to slow cooking. In this book, you’ll find my favorite Paleo slow cooker recipes, all tried-and-true by yours truly. Before we get to the recipes, though, I’d like to indulge in a quick refresher on the basics of the Paleo diet and then take a look at some cooking with slow cooker tips that will serve you well as you move through the cookbook.

What Is The Paleo Diet?

The Paleo diet is nothing new. In fact, it’s about 2.5 million years old. It’s only in the last 10,000 years that our diets have changed to include grains and legumes. The theory behind the Paleo diet is this: 10,000 years, believe it or not, is not a lot of time for evolution to catch up. In other words, our bodies function best when fueled with the foods we used to eat: meat, vegetables, fruits, and some nuts and seeds.

Unfortunately, especially in the last couple hundred years, we’ve replaced whole foods with a high carbohydrate, low nutrient, high-toxin diet. This diet has made us sick. As a species, we’re now dealing with terrible, life-changing issues like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, inflammation, you name it. We are sick, but our Paleolithic ancestors were not. And, importantly, neither are the hunter-gatherer tribes that still exist today.
