We are each born naked into mortality, totally dependent on parents and others to provide for our basic needs. From that first, air-splitting cry until the day we lay our physical bodies down, we march a path, winding our way through uncertainty, unforeseen challenges, and all that life has to throw at us. It is not an easy task, but it can be as rewarding as you want it to be.

There are few gifts bestowed to man at infancy, and none greater than the right to choose. The exercising of our 'free agency' is a fundamental principle of life. It governs our day to day existence: where we go and who we become...but do we have a destiny. Is there a plan for each of us, a journey laid out by our Creator that we should walk?

The answer to that oft posed question is – yes! God may not care what you wear or even the job you choose for yourself, but He is concerned about how you nurture your soul with the decisions that you make. There are lessons to be learned through this mortal sojourn; some through hardships and others through life experiences. However, you are not alone.

The still, small voice that whispers to your heart and mind is God's way of prompting you with help and assurance. It is a conscience, a moral guide to bless your life with direction. Through the inspiring words of writer Carl Mathis discover how to hear, and then recognize that divine direction. We all have a purpose, discovering yours is part of life's many gems.

This Book is dedicated to my three boys Jaron, Carl Jr. and Torrey Mathis, and to all who desire to pursue their purpose for life.

I will like to say special thanks to my editor Michael Kwabo.

If there was a way that you could catch time and make it slow down for your purpose, it’s a possibility that when the end of your road comes calling your name, the note book of your life’s occurrences just may not be empty. Thus, you must make life your priority, to maintain its quality and integrity.

Time, is like a vehicle in the NASCAR on its last lap about to finish the race in first place. It’s not waiting for anyone to catch up. Whether we do something with our lives or not, time is constantly moving at a rapid pace, controlled by no one but itself.

Whether you go to sleep, go for a swim, walk, or watch television, time is a nonstop procedure.

In the blink of an eye your life could be taken away from you. Yes, we know that there is a starting point and an ending point to our lives, but if I open your notebook of what you accomplished and read your accomplishments, would I notice an increase in the value of all that God entrusted you with. O how many times I’ve heard people say I wish I could do it all over again. If I had a chance I would do it differently. However, do you know it’s never too late to? If you are still among the living, then you have adequate time to accomplish some of the things that you might miss during your neglected moments.

It was on a Mother’s Day when I decided to take my boys to the cemetery to place flowers on their mother’s grave. While we were visiting the grave, the memories of the past began to reflect on how at an early age she was taken away from this world. Dying at the age of thirty-six, she did not have enough time to do all that she would have wanted while she was alive. Yes there were good times and bad times, however, I believe her time was cut short due to an unfortunate situation.

As I look at her tombstone which tells a story of her arrival and her departure, I reckon that nothing significant of what she did was written on that stone-plated pallet; it was just her name and two dates, her birth and her death. This reminded me of what life is really worth after you’re sucked into someplace in a different world. You are just names and dates which are carved into stone. The moral of this is that while you are here, you must pursue purpose to its fullest, till you have nothing left to give. Make it profitable and worthwhile, not in vanity and temporal possessions. So at your final examination, your note book would not be blank.

"Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity." (Ecclesiastes 1 KJV) The words of a wise man, (King Solomon).

I believe most of us know the story about Solomon; the story describes him as one who had much fame and recognition throughout his reign as king of Israel. According to the Bible, he was the wisest man in his time. God blessed him tremendously with wisdom and knowledge, and a great abundance of wealth. However, in the last moments of his kingship, he left some words of warning, taken from his past experience. He said.

What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth never changes. The sun rises and the sun sets, and then hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in circles. Rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full. Then the water returns again to the rivers and flows out again to the sea. Everything is wearisome beyond description. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied. No matter how much we hear, we are not content. (Ecclesiastes 1:3-8 NIV) However,

Life is precious and tender; it’s fragile like a baby in its infant age. It needs to be handled with care and concern in order for it to blossom into something marvelous. It needs to be handled with love and tenderness. This may sound strange to a person who thinks that life would last forever, but reality says that we come into this small and complex place call the planet Earth for a short time. And one day our numbers will come up, and we’ll have to depart from this world. One day you are here and the next you vanish into a total different glory. We need to make the most of the time God allows us to vacation on this earth, because tomorrow is not promised; even for the wealthiest and most famous people, time is limited.

Life is like a notebook, with limited pages inside it. Each page represents a specific day and time for a special task. You carry this book with you wherever you go; your everyday activities are jotted down in this book. At the end of your road, your book is opened and read out aloud so you could hear what you have done during your life span. You are going to be evaluated by not how long you lived, but by how well you lived, and certainly by the works that you did.

You must treasure your time with all diligence and carefulness. Unfortunately we cannot stop the day from moving forward, if you do not get out from its way it will run over you. Then you are left with only memories of what was or could have
