About this ebook

Selected to be read on Radio Four's Book of the Week.

'One of the best books I've read in the last five or ten years... Wild is angry, brave, sad, self-knowing, redemptive, raw, compelling, and brilliantly written, and I think it's destined to be loved by a lot of people, men and women, for a very long time.' --Nick Hornby

At twenty-six, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's rapid death from cancer, her family disbanded and her marriage crumbled. With nothing to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to walk eleven-hundred miles of the west coast of America - from the Mojave Desert, through California and Oregon, and into Washington state - and to do it alone. She had no experience of long-distance hiking and the journey was nothing more than a line on a map. But it held a promise - a promise of piecing together a life that lay in ruins at her feet.

Strayed's account captures the agonies - both mental and physical - of her incredible journey; how it maddened and terrified her, and how, ultimately, it healed her. Wild is a brutal memoir of survival, grief and redemption: a searing portrayal of life at its lowest ebb and at its highest tide.

I fell totally and madly in love with this book. I am a huge fan of Cheryl’s because of the great advice she gives in Dear Sugars, so I knew I would like this book, but Cheryl’s writing and honesty about what she went through made me love her.

WILD outlines a young woman’s journey not only on the demanding PCT trekking trail but also on finding peace and understanding of herself. Before this journey she was a lost soul. Her Mom had just died, she was into heroin and sleeping around with whoever presented themselves. Her marriage had fallen apart despite the fact she still loved Paul.
The reader is taken through the pains and pleasures of the trek through breath taking country which I looked up through Google.
I heaved a huge sigh of relief wth Cheryl when she reached her goal destination, the Bridge of Gods. A new path lay ahead now.

I’ve just finished this book for the second time and found it just as brilliant as the first. I devoured it! Ms Strayed is such a fantastic writer, and her description of the tragically short dying of her mother had me weeping freely (again). She paints wonderfully vivid pictures of both the stunning landscapes of the PCT and also her physical, emotional and spiritual struggles. This is my perfect book.

This is an amazing book which I’m buying for sure, it makes you fall in love with nature and life itself.
