About this ebook

For ages, the peoples of Neldorailin had been drawn to the Druid's Stone. Some, for the druids gathered there; some seeking healing, others, knowledge. Many stayed, and settlements were founded. And all the while, the energetic magical fields flowing beneath Neldorailin, was the essence that compelled them.
As time passed, these shelters became villages, and the villages became a city. At the very heart of what was to become Waldheim, the Druid's Stone remained, and the sacred grove surrounding it. The Academy formed to protect the grove, and to harness the energies of the Ley lines, beneath.
Children from miles around dreamed of coming to The Druid's Stone to learn the secrets of magic. Humans, elves, pixies, dwarves and even young dragons little more than mere hatchlings.
For Forniel, it was much more than a dream. He had been abandoned upon the Academy's steps when but a wee babe, as the abomination born of Orc and Human parentage. Learning magic was his means of obtaining respect. Yet when his tutor flatly refused to advance him in the teachings of Demonology, Forniel decided to take the matter into his own hands. The others would stop teasing him for being different when he could command such awe-inspiring and deadly power.
But in his zeal and fervour for power, Forniel makes a deadly mistake. A mistake that will imperil all of Neldorailin.

The fast-paced short story prequel to Amanda Redhead's full-length novel, "Elven Dwarf", The Demon Summoning will propel readers into the heart of the Waldheim Magical Academy where the very nexus of Neldorailin's magical lifeblood flows through the Ley lanes and the lives of those individuals who harness and protect these energies.

    Prologue

The ancient silver dragon stretched his imperious wings and cracked open his wide, saurian jaw, yawning deeply. Old Cintel'oth stayed close to the Academy these days, and his chief duties were the teaching of Neldorailin histories, and those events pertaining to the founding of the Academy, itself. He was quite suited to the task, as he had lived much of this history, first hand.

Today's course was being held out under the sunny skies on the courtyard flagstones. It was the beginning of spring, and the young pupils were restless. Thoughts of capering dryads, bubbly pies, and nights filled with catching fireflies in bottles, had their attention spans addled. It had only taken some brief nudging to the headmaster, Bethrayeus Telmenar (The Younger), to concede the wisdom in allowing the students their recess under the sunny breeze. It was also agreeable to Master Cintel'oth, as he would not be required to shift his prodigious bulk into a shape conducive to strolling into one of the lecture rooms.

Gather in close, now... that's it. My old tongue is ill-suited for shouting. Cintel'oth could maintain some of his talents at Shapeshifting, but old age and various wounds sustained over the years had made the more complex forms near impossible to complete. He had settled now upon forming his tongue and palate to that required for human speech and had mastered many of the two-legged languages. Today's lesson was being taught in the common speech, and all students were required to learn it. Many of the younglings would need years of training yet, in order to concentrate upon forms of telepathic communication, and those races ill-equipped to master those basics could not be administered failing marks. Some manner of consolation had to be considered.

Come now; sit, so we can get started. Settling back on his scaled haunches, Cintel'oth snaked his prodigious tail around to straighten his spectacles, a gift from the master artificers of the dwarves of Clan Stonesplitter. Many had settled within the former clan halls of Clan Norhar, re-inhabiting the ancient hold, and part of
