    Something powerful and relentless threatens the families of a small town in the mountains. The first victim is sixteen-year-old Jennifer Daniels. An evil man tears her family apart with lies and blackmail. Her father commits suicide. Her mother dies of stress. The evil man kidnaps Jennifer and forces her to become a prostitute. Finally, the evil man traps her in a room without windows. She's alone and frightened. He kills her with a wicked, huge knife.

    He tries to blackmail a handsome, virile accountant named Bill Malloy with false evidence. Bill doesn't need any extra complications. He says he wants an uneventful life, but two woman see him as a future husband. He has to decide between home-loving, safe and secure Nancy and Holly, a woman with red hair with dark streaks, a motorcycle and a ring with a design like a rattlesnake. She lives dangerously. Bill is uncomfortably drawn to her. A third woman, his ex-wife, is beating him to death with supoenas and court orders. Nancy looks like a way out. She promises him a pleasant little cottage and a predictable life; but every time she touches him, his muscles cramp up. Holly worries him. He doesn't think she's his kind of woman. Too unstable and much too familiar with violence. He doesn't know it, but she isn't who she says she is. She may be worse. The police don't like her.

    The blackmail attempt fails, and the evil man frames Bill for murder. Bill runs away. One of his women will stand by him. The other won't.

    Tanner and Rhiana Brown, private investigators, stand between the evil man and the families of the small town. By the way, 'Rhiana' means 'Goddess, Nymph or Witch' in Welsh. Rhiana is all of them.
