    Chapter 1 – Choosing a Massage Table

You’ve decided to take a massage course and now you’re looking for a massage table. There are so many out there, it can be overwhelming to decide which will be the right table for you.

Tables can be ordered narrow or wide, standard or with extensions, with cradles that are fixed or adjustable, as stationary or portable tables, and don’t forget massage chairs.

You’ve got a lot of choices with so many different companies out there. Here are a few worth mentioning: Oakworks, Earthlite, Master, Astra Lite, Nautilus, Earthgear, StrongLite, and Custom Craftworks.

First off, how much padding do you want on top of your table?

What type of modalities will you be practicing?

Colors...don’t even get me started on colors! You can have a purple table, a blue table, a green table, a yellow table, you name it. Color may be an important choice to you, but remember most the time sheets will be on the table and those long hours you debated over colors won’t seem so important anymore.

It can be exciting to pick out your very own table. My first suggestion is to wait!

    Wait?

    What do you mean wait?

You’re excited and ready, right? Here’s the thing, while you’re in massage school, you may get the opportunity to try out a few different types of tables. You may find one you prefer over another. You might also find that you would work easier on a narrower or wider table than what’s considered
