Chris Mason

Chris Mason is a software engineer who would rather have been a writer, but he is addicted to coding and couldn't figure out how to support himself writing obscure novels. He worked as a programmer and programming manager for 18 years -- including 10 years at Microsoft, where he was involved with Word and Office for Macintosh. He has three software patents stashed in the back of his closet. After leaving Microsoft for good he founded GrowlyBird Software, which develops free Macintosh applications. He has written ten novels, four of which are available here. Three of his other novels are for sale on Amazon (as ebooks and paperbacks, at the link shown below), and another will be available there soon. Because he's a workaholic curmudgeon with hermit tendencies, he doesn't engage in social media. But you can contact him at chris@growlybird.com.

Super Study Twin Pack - Chris Mason

    Dedication

I would like to thank my mother whose idea for Mason Day and the uttering of the phrase Oh my God Gilmore Girls is over Besides Dancing with the Stars What will I watch now inspired me to explore the wide world of free TV and other media on the internet. My answer to her now is read on, the answers are in this book.

    What This Book Is

The book you are now reading is a roadmap to some of the best free educational resources on the internet. In the following pages, the reader will find the best education resources students and parents may need to help them in the current educational environment. Personally, the author hates books with filler. Therefore, while there may not be many links, the websites listed are the cream of the crop. The author has tried 99 percent of the websites in this book. Moreover, all worked fine on my Dell Dimension XPS with Windows XP Professional as well as my Dell Studio with Windows 7. All screen shots were taken by the author using Print Screen 95, and all the graphics came from the Animation Factory. The quotes were taken from http://thinkexist.com. Some of the descriptions for the free clip art and music section were taken from http://mrssmoke.onsugar.com

How this book is set up

This book has been set up as if the reader was going through a fictional school day. The book is divided into sections that are similar to high school periods. The sections are as follows:

    • Math and Science

    • Language

    • Recess

    • Social Studies

    • Art

    • Continuing Education

    • Computer Programs

    • Free Clipart and Sound Effects

The websites in the book are cross-referenced and can be found in more than one subject, This was done to make it easier for the reader to find the resources they need quickly and easily. The author understands as a parent you want to spend your time helping your child not hunting for resources.

    Schools in Session

The foundation of every state is the education of its youth.

    Diogenes Laertius

That's right boys and girls it's back to school time again. Now, wait I heard that, so did your neighbors that loud groan of "Oh my god school. The author understands the reader's fear as a parent. I know school has become a place of dread and to some, a financial burden. Not anymore within this book, you will find free resources for all school subjects your child may face. For the parents, there is a continuing education section for learning new skills, and because kids need a break, there is even a section for free education games. I believe the bell just rang it's time to get to class.

    My Rating Scale

All ratings were a sum of five criteria

    • Website layout

    • Quality of information

    • Quantity of information

    • Amount of multimedia

    • Uniqueness either in design, content delivery or some other feature.

Some websites were extremely high in one of the above categories and low in another, and that would balance out to achieve the final score.
