About this ebook

“If you keep dead quiet, don’t say a word and don’t even breathe, no one knows what you know. And then you can just get on with your life again and all the bits that hurt, you just put them in a box in your brain and throw away the key.”

Something bad has happened in Ruby's past, except that she would rather not think about it, and she definitely won't talk about it. She clings instead to her collection of rocks and stones which remind her of Nanna, her garden, and happier times.

When she is sent to live in a residential school for girls with emotional problems, meeting Pearl forces Ruby to remember the very thing she was trying to forget. But with remembering comes the shocking revelation that Pearl might be more than a friend.

Where Bluebirds Fly is a moving story about making friends with your enemy, dumping your past, and daring to hope.

I live in beautiful Cumbria with my incredibly handsome husband, two extremely intelligent labradoodles and my impeccably well mannered children. I am sometimes prone to exaggeration.Although I now write and walk my labradoodles (almost) full time, I have in the past worked as a waitress, pill packer, shop assistant, nanny, child minder, shelf-stacker, cook, clerk, cleaner, teacher, hypnotherapist, mother and lots of other things I can't remember. My experiences as a teacher and therapist, working with emotionally disturbed young people led me into writing novels. The children I worked with were, without exception, amazing people with big personalities and tremendous strength of character, but they carried with them some very heavy emotional baggage. My first novel, 'Where Bluebirds Fly' was inspired by the metaphor of difficult emotions being like a bag of stones, weighing you down.Since Where Bluebirds Fly, I have gone on to complete two further novels with similar themes. Bring Me Sunshine, short-listed for the Mslexia Children's Novel Competition 2013, and How to be Lucky. Both are due to be published on Smashwords and other platforms in late 2012/early 2013.
