About this ebook
Is all hope gone for the American evangelical movement after its political and cultural compromises? Whether or not evangelicalism fragments and dissolves, there are guideposts from the church’s past and new leaders emerging to guide us today. Evangelicals After the Shipwreck is a series of eBooks that addresses the failures of the evangelical movement in America while offering clues that show a way forward.
In Book Two, Why Evangelicals Need the Wilderness, Ed Cyzewski draws from the history of God’s people and the church to show how a withdrawal into solitude has been a common response to times of compromise and unfaithfulness. The wilderness melts away our distractions, breaks our attachments to our false selves, and develops a capacity to listen to God and other people.
The solitude of the wilderness prepares us to face our failures, to listen to others, and to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. Although withdrawing runs counter to what most evangelicals have been taught about engaging the world, the credibility of our witness and our ability to discern the wisdom of God depends on it.
