      Chapter 1

      Gina took a deep breath while attempting to yank up the zipper on her black pants. She was sure she heard it screaming in pain, and the top button shouting: Are you kidding me? Even if you get me fastened, no way am I going to hold when you sit your fat ass down.

      She felt suddenly dizzy, unable to hold her breath or her stomach in any longer without passing out. Giving up, and in total despair, she glanced in the mirror and saw her pudgy tummy oozing out where the zipper had failed to connect.

      I’m so depressed.

      She sat and knew perfectly well how her body had gotten into such a sorry state. Since becoming a widow three years ago, she’d substituted food for sex.

      Disgusted at the sight of the roll of fat, she knew had to do something about it. The food, of course, not the sex. There wasn’t much she could do about the latter, even if she wanted to. Most of the men her age were already in relationships. The ones who weren’t relied on Viagra, and they didn’t exactly satisfy her.

      She took another deep breath, this time not with any intention of getting those damn pants zipped up, but instead to think about her life and how she needed to change it. Her youngest son had headed off to university last month. The oldest was now teaching in Colorado. It meant for the first time in her life, she was rattling around in this big house alone. No wonder the pantry and fridge had become her best buddies.

      Gina stood and walked into the hallway. Both her sons’ rooms were now technically all hers, so she was free to do whatever she wanted with them. She’d knock down the wall between them and build herself an exercise room, equip it with a state-of-the-art treadmill, cycle…you name it, and get back into shape.

      She leaned against the door jamb and laughed. No, I’ll hire someone to do that for me. Julie from her book club was always having work done around the house. She’d know of someone reliable who could do a little remodeling. Gina walked into her bedroom, picked up her phone and dialed Julie’s number.

      Hello?

      Hi, Julie. It’s Gina. Can you recommend a guy to do some building work for me?

      Don’t tell me I’ve finally convinced you to put that swimming pool in your backyard?

      Nope. I’m going to build an exercise studio for myself.
