About this ebook

Step One: Find a story. (A good one.)
Step Two: Find a reading buddy. (Someone nice.)
Step Three: Find a reading spot. (Couches are cozy.)
Now: Begin.
Accomplished storytellers Kate Messner and Mark Siegel chronicle the process of becoming a reader: from pulling a book off the shelf and finding someone with whom to share a story, to reading aloud, predicting what will happen, and—finally—coming to The End. This picture book playfully and movingly illustrates the idea that the reader who discovers the love of reading finds, at the end, the beginning.

How To Read a Story is a delightful book that tells the story of a little boy who loves to read and he shares all of the wonderful ways to settle into a good book using a step by step or "how to" format! I have used this mentor text in a variety of ways. In Reader's Workshop, you can use it as a springboard to discuss how you will become a community of readers. You can also use it to discuss the procedures that will help Reader's Workshop run smoothly each day. To inspire writers, this book is a wonderful example of "how to/step by step" writing.

A fantastic story that helps young children understand the process of reading! Truly important! I wish I'd read this as a kid.

I liked this story about a boy who is learning how amazing it is to read a good book. When we finished reading it, I asked my mom if we could read it again today! I loved this book. (Ellie, 3 years old)

I am using this and other books to teach my students English. Many of them are low-level so they rely on the pictures to help them. I am so disappointed in Scribd that so many books - particularly those with pictures - do not align with the text or have strange formatting (ie. cut-off words, long page loading times, in children's books 2-3 connected sentences are stretched over 2 or even 3 pages.) Why do I even keep paying for this membership when issues like this still happen?
