Chapter 1: Persuasion
Persuasion is a technique wherein you encourage someone to think along the same lines as you are and develop the same conclusions. Without persuasion, you run the risk of people formulating their own opinions that may differ from yours, which will quickly cause them to resist what you are saying. If you do not use persuasion, you essentially give people the permission to think whatever they like about your ideas.
In order to better understand persuasion, let’s think about a theoretical scenario for a minute. Let’s say you are talking to someone about a business proposition. You tell them all of the juicy details and then leave them to their own devices. They’re interested, but instead of returning to you, they turn to the person who is easiest to contact in that moment. Perhaps you’re unavailable, out of the office, or the conversation started naturally and geared towards that topic. If you failed to use persuasion, the person you proposed your business idea to may decide to go with someone else,
