    The question arises on why should there be such an illness among supposedly top-notch healthy individuals. The occurrence of eating disorders among athletes is quite common, and the prevalence is shocking. Eating disorders among females are as high as 65% while males are at 35%. An in-depth look at sports and athletes with eating disorders have shown that there is an adverse effect on the health and performance of the sportsmen. After the individual must have undergone treatment and returned to the field, performance is reduced, and a general feeling of lethargy always remains. Apart from the apparent physical effects on the performance levels, it is a mental problem pandemic that ranks just behind suicide in the rate of deaths for individuals suffering from psychological and emotional illness. With this facts, studying the occurrence and effects of eating disorders in sports is very pertinent despite the apparent deficiency of information.
