To all who seek health and wholeness in body, mind, spirit, and relationships so freely offered by the compassionate, loving, healing Christ
A PRAYER FOR THE GUIDANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Come, Holy Spirit, enlighten my mind, cleanse my motives, clarify my intentions and guide my ambitions, especially in this matter and mystery of healing.
When full understanding is not possible,
give me faith to trust in you anyway.
When my questions are greater than my answers,
give me faith to trust in you anyway.
When my doubts outweigh my certainties,
give me faith to trust in you anyway.
Above all else, Holy Spirit of the Living God,
decrease my desire to live in my restrictive world of self and increase my desire to live in the freedom of your Kingdom.
In the name of the One who makes possible the answer to this
prayer,
in the name of Jesus, I offer this request. Amen.

INTRODUCTION
Those who design and lead worship will discover in this book guidelines and resources for healing ministry that is Christ-centered and can be adapted in a variety of settings. Although God uses medicine, hospitals, and various remedies in the healing process, these avenues for improving health do not address the spiritual heart of humankind. Does this imply that local churches might replace local hospitals? Not at all! The churches, however, can offer spiritual therapy not provided by health care professionals. God, as revealed in Jesus Christ—who is loving, compassionate, and on the side of good health—intends for us to seek and use the best medical care and the best spiritual care combined. Consider these ten reasons why the church is uniquely qualified as a primary healing community. The church:
1. Presents all of Christ’s ministries: teaching, preaching, and healing;
2. Engages in whole person healing (body, mind, spirit, relationships);
3. Encourages a lifestyle of prayer;
4. Emphasizes the role of faith;
5. Deals with the root causes of illnesses;
6. Is an extended family giving care, love, and support;
7. Practices one-on-one ministry;
8. Cooperates with health care professionals;
9. Advocates and promotes the health of our natural environment;
10. Offers spiritual therapies, such as the sacraments, prayer and meditation, biblical insights and values, forgiveness, worship opportunities, spiritual companionship, and the healing Christ.
During his earthly ministry Jesus clearly understood and demonstrated the interrelatedness between
