Job Satisfaction - R Ram Prasad
Preface
Companies and individuals, invariably aspire to grow. Everyone deserves a fair chance and time to evolve into such an environment and that takes some responsible leadership in mastering one’s own mindset. Loving the job is one such trait that one needs to develop to make it a truly rewarding environment for one’s own self, the company, co-workers, customers and all other stakeholders. This e-book is all about my individual fight against my own mind to overcome the negative emotions in response to various external situation.
If I feel totally satisfied about the clarity and the personal connect that I am making with my readers, it is because of all the hours, Sanjay Shenoy, Co-founder, PixelTrack dedicated to share those techniques and examples with me. He helped me a great deal in shaping my raw thoughts into a coherent work that could resonate with actual problems people face in their lives. It constantly amazes me how despite his caliber and achievements, he is accessible for help and advice.
I must also thank Avi Arya, Chief Mogul, Internet Moguls. Within a very short acquaintance period, he managed to inspire me a great deal with his zeal and passion. The best part was he offered a Sunday evening to help me with ideas, tools, techniques to come up with the book’s title that people can easily relate to. I have always been amazed by his mantra – ‘Help others generously’.
The ultimate motive of sharing my personal story with the world, which is about my journey in creating the mindset from within, is to inspire the readers to achieve true job satisfaction in whatever they do and grab their limitless potential that is bundled in this miracle called Life. It has nothing to do with any company or person who is associated with me at any capacity.
Any inadvertent reference to individuals or company is coincidental and not intentional.
Introduction
If you die today, how would people in your social circle refer to your death? Would it be something that sounds like ‘the government school teacher died’, ‘the dentist died’, ‘the artist died’, ‘the baker died’ or ‘the software engineer died’?
Assume, you live for seventy years. The first twenty-six years get attributed to growing up and the last ten to a relaxed retirement. You have thirty- four years sandwiched in between. The total number of days in thirty-four years is 12410 (34 X 365 days), ignoring the leap years. If we take away the weekends, you are left with 8864 workdays. If you live in a country like India, which has many holidays, let’s assume you get twenty holidays per year. You are now left with a total of 8184 days to work. These 8184 days mark your professional life, which is an inevitable 66% of your life and predominantly define your identity.
Once you grow old enough for jobs, the work you do invariably becomes your identity for the rest of your life. Shouldn’t you be creating this identity with joy and love? Do we deserve to be stressed in this three-fourths portion of our active lifetime? Shouldn’t we be cheerful, motivated, and eagerly looking forward to each working day?
