      JoAn Field was born Joann Etta Sonstegard in a small town called Brooten, Minnesota.  She had always had a desire to write.  She has had poetry and short stories published over the years.   JoAn left her home town to pursue a nursing career.  She graduated from college in 1957.  Following college, she traveled in Europe and visited many of the French, German, and Spanish Castles to be seen there.  Always enticed by the magical stories of the fairy tale castles, she dreamed of writing about them.  However, writing was “put on hold” to raise her family.  Now, as a grandmother of 3 beautiful granddaughters and a great grandson...she decided to fulfill her dream.  She hopes you will want to read this tale of magic and hope to your little girls, and all the little girls who dream of castles in the air...will want to read also.

      Once upon a time, not too long ago, a little girl peeked out from behind her tiny cardboard box that was her home. Good, she said, it’s not raining today.

      In her own small way, she had made this into a special little home. A square window was cut out in the side where she had placed a nice clear piece of plastic she had found in a dumpster. It let in the light very nicely. She had found a warm section of carpet to put on her floor, and even a wooden crate for a table. To her it was all the home she had ever known.

      Boy, am I hungry, she mumbled to herself.

      Just then, she caught a whiff of a delicious aroma. It was fresh baked bread. MMMMMmmmmmm!! the pleasing thought of tasting some of that delicacy drew her closer and closer to the origin of the delight.

      She stopped when she arrived at a diner sitting in the midst of a rundown street with broken bottles and scraps of paper lying all around the sidewalk. None of that mattered to her.
