Growing up and living in a small town in Upstate New York I am proud to be publishing my second book of poetry. My life has taken many twists and turns from high school, college, marriage, becoming a mother of 3 sons, teaching at a local school district, and then my diagnosis of cancer. During my time of recovery I published my first book, Everything Happens for a Reason in December 2006. In this second book of my poetic works I will take you through the last 5 years of my life since my breast cancer diagnosis in March, 2006. I have been through a great deal of hardships since my diagnosis and have used my writing to keep myself "on track" with life. Some of the hardships other than the cancer have included Bankruptcy and losing my home of 15 years, divorce, other health diagnoses including Major Severe Depression. Through all my tearful journey and my smiles as well, I have written poems for all to enjoy. Some are dedicated to our military and their families. I want others to know in this world around us there is always someone worse off than you, you must always rise above and prosper no matter how deep you feel your difficulties are. When Life Comes at You, Fight Back... - Heather A. Hogeboon
HOPE FOR A CURE
This means so much to me
for all of you who don’t know,
it changes your life forever
and NEVER really lets you go…
For some reason
my favorite color used to be purple,
but now I wear pink
day in and day out
I live by the sign,
a ribbon turned about…
Hope for a cure
is what this ribbon states,
I wish we could find a cure
so no one would ever face
the endurance of this disease
at a fast and furious pace
it takes over your body
in a mean and nasty way…
But for now I will hope
like many others do
and someday with technology
I will hear the word cure
and then we will be for
