Across the Aisle: Being the Salt Seasoning and Light to Those Around You

About this ebook
What does Scripture teach us about community?
Paul writes: If you have gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if His love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you carethen do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited Friends. Dont push your way to the front; dont sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Dont be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. Philippians 2:15 (The Message)
Jesus came as a servant to all. We must follow His way.

We all seek personal happiness, but it cannot be achieved by focusing within. When we truly go outside of self and serve others as Jesus did, we can achieve peace and joy. Jerry Maxwell writes so effectively about this timeless principle because he lives it in his everyday life.
— C. Andrew Millard, CFP financial planner and author of The Graduate’s Book of Practical Wisdom: 99 Lessons They Can’t Teach in School
Jerry Maxwell has a keen understanding of the sense of community that we all desire to experience, yet unfortunately miss so often due to our fast-paced, busy culture. In his book Across the Aisle, he provides practical and inspiring examples that can greatly guide any small group on how to do life together in biblical community. What I appreciate most about his book is knowing that he not only writes about these issues in theory, he lives them daily with great success for the kingdom of God.
— Bart Howell, lead pastor, Eagles View Church, Saginaw, Texas
As Jerry Maxwell follows his heart for Christ and others, he seasons his relationships in life group settings and in community with salt and light.
We have witnessed his servant-hearted passion for experiencing church from the bottom up!
— Chuck Grice, senior director of a large electrical distribution company
— Bettye Ann Grice, children’s minister and writer
It’s always refreshing to be reminded that our Lord has not changed despite an American culture being in a state of constant turbulence. Praise be to God for using this book as an instrument to remind the church in America that we do not need to continually reinvent various methods of ministry. Our Lord has always managed to keep His truth simple yet deep. Thank you for sharing your testimony and reminding us that He continues to move in mighty ways if we abide in Him and love our neighbor.
— Joey Dugas, territory sales manager
Tragically our world is littered with the human casualties of broken relationships. Jerry Maxwell shines a light on simple yet powerful biblical principles proven to help hurting people find healing and renewed meaning to life. Across the Aisle is a must read for anyone seeking to live the fulfilling, meaningful life of significance Christ intended.
— Jeff Harris, author of Retire Rich and Happy (Aames-Abbott Publishing 2006)
In a day and age where Christians tend to shy away from the body and live as Lone Ranger Christians, Maxwell illuminates numerous biblical passages and examples of how Christianity is about relationships, walking alongside complete strangers in their time of need, and embracing multigenerational fellowship. Imagine a world where we actually live as the Bible intended … It would look a lot like this book describes. If you feel the Holy Spirit urging you to expand your boundaries, be more mission-minded, and enveloped by the body of Christ, this book is a trusty guide for your journey.
— C. Seth Fowler, director of sales and marketing, HD Homes
