    Preface

This compilation of numbers began two years ago when my husband, a minister, became interested in the numbers of the Bible. Thinking that I could be of help to him, I began making a list of each number and its Biblical reference. I intended to primitively bind the book and let him use it in his reference library. However, as I began to read through the Bible, I found that it is full of numbers. What started out as a small project began to mushroom into a full-fledged reference resource. Someone suggested to me that he felt the scriptures would be of help to those who are students of the Bible.

This book is not meant to interpret or explain the numbers in the Bible. It is merely a reference that a student of the Bible can use to quickly find where each number is located. The book is written with the numbers in numerical order, and the Biblical references are listed according to the flow of the books of the Bible. I have also included the ordinal numbers because I feel they also help us see God’s perspective of timing in the Bible. The scriptures are all taken from the King James Version. I also found that the King James Version does not use the pronoun, everyone. Instead it is written as two separate words. I included these in the listings for the number one. The number entries that I used are either direct quotes, paraphrases, or lists.

I trust that this book will be of help to those who find that the Bible uses numbers in patterns. God’s Word is full of hidden meanings, and I hope that this reference will help the student to understand the systematic patterns of the use of numbers in scripture.

    One

The number one is the number of unity. It is the beginning. It is the origin of all things and is independent of all others.

    Deuteronomy 6:4 . . . . . The Lord our God is one God.

Matthew 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together let not man put asunder.
