About This Book
Nestled among the hills along the Ohio River in the Southwestern corner of Pennsylvania is Reilly’s ‘Summer Seat’ Farm. The name originated from the Land Grant title because this farm was once part of the Depreciation Lands given to George Washington’s troops for their service in the Revolutionary War.
When Lt. Col Michael Reilly retired from the Marine Corps in 1983, he bought the acreage from his father with the dream of making it into a working farm. Even though farming was on the decline, Mike, with the help of his wife Cherie, and their children Renee, Michael, Kevin and Shawn, managed to create a productive farm and later added a garden center.
Over the years, Summer Seat Farm became synonymous with FUN, because of it’s pick-your-own crops and exciting Fall Festivals which featured hayrides, pumpkin-picking, and an abundance of exciting autumn activities.
As the Reilly children grew and pursued their own careers in other parts of the country, only daughter Renee remained in the Pittsburgh area. Her children spent many happy hours chasing butterflies, picking berries, and enjoying the freedom of the farm. They welcomed the baby animals that arrived, and found appropriate names for all of them.
The grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Kerr, brought new vitality to Summer Seat Farm. When Ryan suggested that they write stories about the humorous and exciting events that happened at the farm, their grandmother (Mimi) agreed that it would be a wonderful way to preserve those special memories.
