    Chapter 1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and void…

    150,000 Years Earlier

The light from the sun casts broken through the tree tops of the forest as two large tree branches fall to the ground from the canopy above. A young man, no older than twenty, leaps from a tree to the ground. As he slowly rises he wipes the sweat from his brow.

That should be enough to help rebuild the houses lost in the flood.

The young man splits the branches into smaller pieces and throws them on the pile of wood he had previously collected. As he begins to walk toward his village the earth beneath his feet begins to tremble. Suddenly he hears a loud explosion as he sees a large red beam of light as it stretches to the heavens exiting the planet’s atmosphere. The young man quickly drops the wood and runs toward his village with concern.

As he reaches the village center he stops and calls out to the village elder.

    Father… Father what has happened?

The old man turns and embraces the hug from his son and calms him.

Do not fret my boy the gods have sent the Tablet of Destiny from our hands and sent it back to the heavens.

The young man shakes his head in sadness.

But I thought the tablet protected us and allowed our people to flourish.

The old man smiles to calm his son.

That is true and yet I think it’s a sign of good things to come.

The young man lowers his head in sadness as the village elder tries to comfort him once more.

Come Marduk, cheer up. It’ll all be ok, you’ll see. Come let’s finish reconstruction so we can celebrate our village’s recovery tomorrow evening.

Marduk nods his head in agreement as he turns to run to gather the wood he had collected.

Truly a sign of the gods indeed, but I fear not a good one.

The old man turns and then goes back to helping with the reconstruction of his village.

    * * *

A raging bonfire blazes in the night as the sky is illuminated red from the light from the Lay Line stretching toward the stars. The villagers dance and feast as they celebrate their hard work from rebuilding their village. Marduk sits off in a corner gazing at the Lay Line in deep thought. Suddenly his concentration is broken by the sound of a woman’s voice.

    What is wrong my child?

Marduk looks up to see his mother smiling down at him. Marduk returns a small smile as he moves aside to allow her to sit next to him.

Why do you not celebrate with the others?

It’s that light that burst out of the planet’s surface and the disappearance of the tablet. It concerns me.

Marduk’s mother rubs his back in comfort as she responds to his concerns.

Do not worry Marduk, remember the tablet was a gift from the gods whom have every right to take it back and the light is a beacon to find its way back when the gods deem it necessary.

Marduk smiles in understanding as he stands and helps his mother to her feet.

You are right mother. Perhaps I am over thinking it. Come let us go and join father in the celebration.

She smiles at her son’s lightened mood as she takes his hand and they head toward the bonfire. As the villagers continue to celebrate they are interrupted by a large dark shadow over casting their village. The villagers begin to run and scream as smaller ships begin to descend from the large spacecraft.

As the gunships land, warriors garbed in golden armor with six angelic wings sprouting from their backs begin to attack the village. Marduk quickly races toward his father with concern.

What is it? Marduk asks in a panic.

It is the Annunaki and Tiamut is with them.

Marduk’s eyes widen as he responds in disbelief.

The gods are here, but why is Tiamut attacking?

Marduk’s father pauses momentarily and then pushes his son out of the way as a beam of energy passes between them.

I don’t know son, but right now we must fight. Go and save the others!

Marduk listens to his father as he runs and grabs his double ended spear as he turns he sees an Annunaki warrior bearing down on him with a golden spear. Marduk quickly blocks it and spins to stab the warrior in the chest. The spear leaves no markings as it glances off of the impenetrable golden armor. The
