101St Poems Written from the Desert War Within - James Menard
Sink or Swim
To reach this torture where I am now, here,
Trapped in my own sea of misfortune:
Inspirations lead me to this desert of nowhere
Without heroes in the desert sands,
Full of only half steps, of almost successful attempts.
Desert prison and I cannot wait to share it with you;
Cold winters to share my frozen fears.
I dream of sharing my failed attempts with you.
Follow your passionate wonders until they are all spent,
Only to fall without rhyme or reason why am I trying again?
If you give up, you did not try hard enough,
So get up to miss the glory again.
Success will never appear magically, my friend
I wait for the cold to stop my heartache.
Chase of fame took my sweat, blood, tears from me
As I find my success is passed away in vain.
I drown in my sea of failed opportunity.
Wake Up or Just Dream
Every day is a new surprise.
I am trying to make up new events.
The day comes with the price of life.
Will I find my life well spent?
All the time lost, what was the cost?
I lived well, but now what is it worth?
Plans change each time I close my eyes.
I feel worth more than just birth.
I cannot just do a job well done.
I may never know all the meanings.
I hope tonight it is not over.
I must wake up from this dream.
Burn It All
Take your favorite ice cream out of the freezer.
Now place it beside your favorite chair.
Grab you favorite movie or song and prepare to play it.
Grab the remote and push pause.
Go to your garage and grab the gasoline.
Douse your chair, your favorite life, everything.
Call the ones who broke your heart.
Let them know the fire they left behind is still burning.
The one you call is long gone.
He left me and has been a no-show ever since.
He was not a dad or a father,
Just a man watching me fall apart,
I was left alone with a lost and broken heart.
Life and my experiences go to extremes.
I did not mean to use my loss as a crutch all the time.
I hurt the ones closest to me because I was slothful
I lost everything for years without knowing it.
One Person’s Reality Is Another’s False Hope
Every day I walk away
Then I come back again.
This quicksand relationship is going down.
There is no way, this time, to
