    Katina M. Cotton

    Katina Marshell Cotton was born on 17 June 1972 in Chicago, Illinois, and she lived on the South Side for several years as a child. When Katina was 5, her mother moved to California to make a better life while Katina stayed in Chicago with her grandmother. At 8 years old, Katina moved to Los Angeles to live with her mother. Katina loved her new environment in California because it was richly multicultural, giving her the ability to respect, embrace, learn from, and love people from various cultures. At age 11, Katina moved to the high desert area of California for a few years to live with her grandma and aunties who were around her same age. Living in the high desert gave Katina the opportunity to live in a slower, quieter environment; this allowed her to see the beauty in a simple, peaceful way of life. A turning point occurred in Katina's life at age 13, when her dad passed away. After returning to California after her dad's funeral in Chicago, Katina experienced a brief period of depression and moved back to the city to be with her mother in Beverly Hills. Katina had to start high school in an environment that was entirely new to her. This was challenging, but she overcame the difficulties. After graduating from Beverly Hills High School at 17, she attended Santa Monica College to prepare for university. When Katina was 17 years old, she also travelled abroad to Vienna, Austria, through a program at this college. Her experience in Austria opened her mind to many more opportunities beyond staying in one place. Katina went on to obtain her BA in sociology with an emphasis in psychology from the University Of Los Angeles, California (UCLA). Katina has a very diverse background; she lived in Berkshire, England, for four years, and now she lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with her husband. Katina’s current professions are writing and designing jeans, and she is training her other abilities to share with the world.
