Paul F. Taylor

Along with his wife, Moira, Paul was the pastor of Elim Pentecostal churches in Northern Ireland, Eire and England for about 25 years. For some time they sensed that God was leading them to leave the pastoral ministry and to allow Him to guide them in a different way. It was going to be a big step for them as they had no job and no means of support. But then, through events out of their own control, the doors closed on them continuing in the pastoral ministry. So now they had to rely totally on the Lord. Paul took qualifications to teach other people to drive, as a means of supporting the family. There were times he had to ask people to stop praying for pupils to teach as he had too many to take! Such was God's goodness. But it was all part of learning to trust upon God. Later, as Paul was writing a letter to a friend, God showed him what had happened. He revealed that they were like young eagles in the nest. When it was time for the eaglets to fly and they were unwilling, the mother eagle would break up the nest and force them into the air. If the young eagles had difficulty in flying, then the mother would dive underneath them and carry them on her wings (Deuteronomy 32:11). It was God who had closed the door on continuing in pastoral ministry at that time, and He was teaching Paul and Moira to rely upon him and not look to anyone else. Without knowing what was going on in Paul's life, someone prophesied over him that he had a message to give, and that he was going to soar on wings like eagles. Paul's main ministry is teaching. Over the years, people joined the church, where he was pastoring, to hear him teach. So he started some Bible Studies and put them into booklets so others could benefit from them. It has always been his heart to help people develop an intimate relationship with God. Moira's ministry is music and prophetic intercession. With some friends, a music ministry began. Songs are composed and recorded onto CDs along with a short message from Paul, and these CDs are distributed free in the UK and three other countries. In 2007, this ministry was called Kingdom Lifestyle Ministries, but as the ministry has developed, we changed the name to "Upon Eagles Wings." The aim is to help people come into a place where they can "soar on wings like eagles." (Isaiah 40:31.)

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

To our friends who formed the house group at which these studies were initially presented. Their enthusiasm, help and constructive comments made my task easier and worthwhile. To Eric, Jo, Paul and Sheila as well as my wife, Moira, my wholehearted thanks.

Paul was involved in leadership at a Pentecostal Church for several years. At the moment he worships at the Holy Trinity Church of England in Nuneaton, where he plays the keyboard in some of the services. Sheila, his wife, enjoys teaching from the Bible.

Eric is involved in leadership at St John’s Church of England in Newhall, Derbyshire and has been organist there For many years. Jo is one of our close friends. She worships at St Francis Church of England in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Together with my wife Moira, we were pastoring Elim Pentecostal churches in Northern Ireland, Eire and England for 25 years.

Then we felt that God wanted to us to leave the pastoring ministry and to trust him for our ministry. This was a big step for us as we did not know which way to turn, or how we were going to minister. My main ministry was teaching and my wife’s ministries were in music and song and in the prophetic.

We moved to Swadlincote, near Burton-on-Trent; where we spent time seeking God. He clearly showed us that we were to trust Him and Him alone, and not look to people or organizations.

We started a ministry called Kingdom Lifestyle ministry, where our aim was to come alongside local churches to help them and to reach out into the community. As part of this ministry, I started Bible Studies and put them into book form to make them available to people who could benefit from them.

The studies are different to any others that I have done. As I continued to seek God, a deeper intimacy developed between the Lord and me. This relationship is reflected in the studies. They encourage people to seek God and have a more loving and intimate relationship with Him.

Also, the Lord brought us into fellowship with some wonderful people in Burton, and with a couple from our previous church in Nuneaton, a musical ministry developed and we started to put our songs onto CDs for distribution.

As our ministries with the books and CDs developed, the main aim of our ministry has changed to helping and encouraging people, so we decided to change the name of the ministry to Upon Eagles Wings.

Moira and I are in fellowship at St John’s Church of England in Newhall, where I have served as a member of the PCC.

    PREFACE

Come, take my hand. as we journey through this book, and let me show to you how wonderful God is. Let me help you understand that as God is everything to me, then He will also be everything to you. Just look at the titles of the chapters and You will see how wonderful this journey is going to be.

He is love – and He will always love me. He is there – always at my side. He is my peace, He is my provider, He is my righteousness. He is my healer. He is my banner – of love; He is my banner – of victory. He is my shepherd, and I shall not want. He is everything to me, there is no need He cannot supply, there is no problem I have that He cannot help me. He is all I need. He is everything to me.

It has been a challenge to me to write this book. I had to study topics which I have never studied before. I’ve had to write them in a way that would be easy to understand for the young Christian but with depth for the more mature. This wasn’t easy.

For example, looking at God’s name The Lord my Sanctifier. How does one present the subject of sanctification in a way that could be easily understood, as well as meaningful and relevant? What are the benefits of sanctification? Not easy! But after much prayer, study and several restarts, after two months I understood how to present it and was able to write the first few paragraphs.

To get the truth across in a meaningful way, some of the topics required more than one chapter, while others required a different presentation.

This is evident in the The LORD is There where I bolded the word "there" to try to emphasis the truth that the Lord is there with us. As I studied this, I realised what the truth is about Ezekiel’s Temple.

The LORD my Provider was approached in a completely different way. But as I did this, the Lord blessed me in a remarkable way, and I just felt I was in a Holy Place as I looked at Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac.

The LORD my Banner was most remarkable. As I was writing the second chapter, God’s love just filled me such in a wonderful way…  it was difficult to express my response in words.

The LORD my Shepherd had to be done in a totally different way – as I have written a book on this, and I did not want any repetition. So I have used these chapters as a help to remember the truths and the Names of God in the rest of the book.

Originally, I had included two chapters looking at the meaning behind the name Jehovah (I AM). But I was never really happy with these chapters. Even though I considered doing it with a different approach I was never really happy with it. So one evening, I laid the problem before the Lord, asking for guidance. I awoke at 3.00 that morning, with the answer clearly in my mind. God showed me the way to do it. Remove the chapters from the book and replace them with one chapter, on the truth that God’s Name is Holy.

Strictly speaking, the Bible contains no Name of God that says The LORD is Love. But this truth is evident throughout the scripture, so I felt that I had to include a chapter on God is love. The truths, God is love and God is holy, unavoidably flow through all the chapters as God always acts according to His love and His holiness.

My wife reminded me that in a meeting a while ago (2003) someone told me that I had a message to share. Although I did not understand this at the time, it is evident now – to help people come into an intimate relationship with the Lord.

At this time, I was attending the Christian International Church in Burton, Steve Watson was the pastor. I asked him if there was anything I could do to help him in the church. He suggested that I write something that had confessions in. At the time I did not fully understand what he was saying, or what he wanted. But I do now!

This is the second book I have written that is based on people confessing the Word of God. What Steve said to me only came back to my mind as I was finishing the third book.

Later one of my friends from USA, Randy, told me my Bible Studies were going to change. They were going to be new, something that has not been done before. This puzzled me, until now!

It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will bless you and inspire you as you go through these studies, and that He will bring you into a deeper and more intimate relationship with Him.

    INTRODUCTION

    This book is different.

It is not primarily a study book about the Names of the LORD.

It is not about getting to know about God, but getting to know Him in a greater way.

As each chapter unfolds, the word will give you a personal and intimate revelation of God who is holy yet who is a Heavenly Father full of love and compassion.

With the help of The Holy Spirit, this book will take you through the Names of the LORD and bring you into a more intimate relationship with Him.

As you go through each chapter, you will find the book helping…

8874.jpg    To encourage you to meditate on the Word of God, to confess the Word and to do it. (Joshua 1:8)

8877.jpg    To increase your faith in the Lord. (Romans 10:8, 9, 17). You will be encouraged to put your entire life into His Hands, and to trust Him for all things.

8879.jpg    To inspire you to spend more time in His presence. There you will get to know Him and be able to develop your fellowship with Him.

8881.jpg    To bring you into a more intimate relationship with Jesus. (Revelation 2:4, 5).

And you will begin to soar with Him as on wings like eagles. (Isaiah 40:31).

    THE IMPORTANCE OF NAMES

    IN THE BIBLE

In Hebrew culture and thought, a name is something very significant. Even in the New Testament times, the Hebrew concept still influenced the idea of names. To these people a name was not just an identity tag that distinguished one person from another or one place from another. It was much more than this.

The name of a place can reveal a certain characteristic about that place. So God gave a city the name Babel which comes from a Hebrew word meaning to confound, to confuse. For there, God confused the language of the whole world. (Genesis 11:9.)

The name of a person can reveal his character, his personality or even his destiny. For example, Abigail was able to say to David of her husband, Please, let not my lord regard this scoundrel Nabal. For as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! (1 Samuel 25:25 NKJV.) The Hebrew word nabal means fool, and the man certainly acted in foolish ways. As was his name – so was his nature.

Sometimes the name was changed to indicate, for example, a change of calling or destiny, or conduct or character. So when God confirmed His covenant to Abram that he would become a father of many nations, He changed Abram’s name, which means exalted father, to Abraham which means father of a multitude. (Genesis 17:1-7). Thus Abraham had to go around with this new name even though he did not have any children for a while. This was a massive statement of faith by him to his neighbours. For when others knew that his name was Abraham, they would ask him how many children he had. He would reply, None yet. But God is going to give me many.

It is the same with God. When God wants to reveal Himself to us He declares His Name. God’s Name reveals His character, His will, His purpose among other things. So when God tells us what His Name is, then that is what He is like, and He cannot be anything else.

When He wanted His people to understand that He was always with them and continually at their side He revealed Himself by His Name The Lord is There. This means that His nature, His character, His entire being was to be with His people, there at their side, at all times. His plans and purposes, His will and His actions are all determined by His desire to be with His people, always with them, never to leave nor forsake them.

When God wanted His people to realise that He could keep them from every disease and heal them from every sickness, He revealed Himself by His Name The Lord who heals (Exodus 15:26). When He wanted to know that He would always lead them and guide them, care for them and guard them, He revealed Himself as The Lord my Shepherd (Psalm 23:1).

There are well over 300 names or descriptions of God or Jesus in the Bible. I have dealt with some in my previous book Lord, How Great You Are. For example I looked at some of his personal names such as The Lord is There and The Lord my Peace.

    HOW TO USE THIS BOOK

The most important thing is to ask the Holy Spirit to inspire you and to implant the truth into your heart. He will guide you into all truth and will make the truth come alive to you. He will reveal Jesus to you. If you do not ask the Holy Spirit for help, the book will be just words and will not profit
