About this ebook

Salient Points of the Book
1. The theme of the book is, the politician, whatever their part, never tell us the truth. They are either half-truths, either heavily exaggerated or outright lies.
2. President Bill Clinton is credited with having balanced the budget for the first time in 47 years, eliminated deficit financing and created a huge surplus of $5.3 trillion at the end of his eight year term. What did he do to achieve this? The answer is nothing. Was the $5.3 trillino supposedly left by him- was it real or was it a phantom?
3. The truth behind the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
4. The history of the national debt. The reason for deficit financing resulting in the national debt and where it is taking the United States.
5. The economy and the role of the President in its downward and upward trend.
6. The Social Security and Medicare. The politicians are frightening us by saying that these will become bankrupt by the year 2020 or so. Is it possible and what exactly is the nature of these two? Are they welfare entitlements or our rights?
Fotr answers to all these questions read my book "Are we, We the Idiots" as the politicians think we are, which will be published soon.

I was born in the year 1923 in a Hindu family of moderate means, living in a small countryside town in the District Capital of Punjab. Province of British India. I graduated from high school in the year 1940: by then U had learned to read, write and speak the following languages: Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, English, and Sanskrit- the language of our ancestors. My parents couldn't afford to send me to college which was 100 miles away from our place. It was wartime and jobs were available everywhere, and after a couple of jobs I landed in the Defense Accounts Department of the Government of India. I started at the lowest clerical job, qualified as an accountant, after which I confirmed to get a promotion to higher posts from time to time and rose to the highest cadre of the department and retired as a Deputy Controller of Defense Accounts in 1981. I got married in 1945. In 1947, when India got independence, a part of it was declared as the state of Pakistan, with muslim majority. My town came to be in Pakistan, and in the riots that ensued, we Hindus were driven out of our houses and had to migrate to India. I, with my family, migrated to India at the end of September 1947, having lost everything in Pakistan. My family immigrated to the U.S. in 1980 and now I have two sons and two daughters, 10 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, all of which are American citizens. I too have been living here since 1992 as a legal alien, and since the year 2006 I have shifted back to India after becoming legally blind. My only hobby in life was reading. I liked reading from the first English literature, the classical books, and later on non-fiction for general knowledge. All along I have been a keen observer to the political goings on. .

    Introduction

Before I start writing the book, I deem it necessary to introduce myself so that the readers can fully appreciate what I am going to write, where I am coming from and what is the purpose of my writing the book.

I am an 88 years old legal resident of the United States. By profession, I am an accountant and have done Audit and Accounts work in The Defense Department of Government of India from where I retired in the year 1981. My association with the United States starts in 1979-80 when my eldest daughter became a US Citizen. Since then I was visiting US once every year and became a legal resident in 1992. Since then I have been living the life of an average JOHN DOE on the street of the US, working in small fields and facing everyday problems. At present I have my four children and ten grand children here all of whom are American Citizens. Being a legal alien in the US, I am not entitled to vote and therefore I have no affiliation with either of the two Political organizations—Republican and Democrats. But being an old timers having seen and lived through good old times my thoughts are always leaving on the right side but the thoughts that I am going to express in this shall not be guided by any particulars, any of the Political considerations, because I always look at every event or happening or action the right or wrong angle. I have been taking keen interest in the happening in the US since 1980 when did watch the Presidential Election. As it’s my habit every time. I hear something from the Politicians or there is some kind of happening, I always try to go to the bottom of the matter to see if it stands the test of right or wrong and most of the time I find out that whatever has been claimed or stated is not what it appears to be and what the Politicians want us to believe. The problem therefore is not what they tell us. It is that we the People never questioned them because whatever we are told or hear, we believe it to be the truth. It makes the problems take it for granted. The problem starts right at the time of Elections. The candidates my they be Republican or Democrats, try to make us believe that they know all the problem we the common people are facing and that they shall work tirelessly in order to get them addressed. But the position changes as soon as they are elected with our votes. Instead of becoming Representatives of We the People, they become our Rulers.

Right from the first day in office they start working to make the proposals of their re-election for the next time. Since every election, as it is, costs lots of money and that money in each case comes from vested interests, there are always efforts to the legislations favoring those vested interest, passed. The problems of the people are put on the back burner so that they remain unsolved till the next elections and they can assure the people that if re-elected, they would put all their energies in getting those problems solved. This cycle of events goes on and on.

Most of the time what these Politicians do or say is never questioned by anyone and if anyone looked critically in them, he would find out that what has been said or claimed is either incorrect or exaggerated. This fact would be evident from the facts that I have tried to bring out in the book. I am not a Political commentator, a Pundit or a Consultant of some kind but as I have already started I am just a JOHN DOE and have looked at everything from common sense point of view during the past 15 years whenever something happened, I did try to look into it as an auditor and most of the times, I was able to have different view than the general perception. My American friends agreed with me when I discussed it with them. In due course they wanted me to write about all this in a book. But I never thought of it. The events kept on turning in my head and sometimes bothered me to the extent that I felt disturbed by it. Let me give one example of this, you remember that when President Bill Clinton left office after two terms, he claimed that he was leaving a $ 5.3 Trillion surplus in Budget. Nobody questioned it an in the Election campaign 2000, discussion stated between the candidates as to what should be done with surplus. Candidate George Bush said, he would return it to the Tax Payer and EL Gore said that it should be taken to reduce The National Debt (I am not sure of this).

Unfortunately in September’2001, The Al-Qaida attack on the World Trade Center Tower came about and the country was faced with huge expenses (not budgeted) for running the war on terrorism. Even before that the unemployment position getting bad. The economy had signs of weakness. At that time the Democrats started to blame President Bush for squandering the surplus. At the time of 2004 Presidential Elections John Kerry the Democrat candidate kept on blaming President Bush for squandering the huge surplus left by President Clinton. Even till recently the Democrat senators /congressional kept on blaming Republicans for that. When I looked into this whole matter of a huge surplus supposedly left by President Bush, it didn’t go down my throat. Ultimately I found out that there was no such huge surplus as claimed. It was a Phantom surplus credited by spin masters and was taken to be there by everyone I have given full details of how it had actually happened in the chapter dealing with The Presidents of the United States from 1980 to date.

I could have written about all this when it actually happened but I had no inclination to write this book and also I was not physically fit to undertake such a venture. By the year 2000, I had started suffering from age related macular degeneration—an eye disease which ultimately killed the rear vision in both of my eyes and I was declared legally blind. This process was completed by 2005. Since by then I could not see the rear things, I could not read or write or do any work for that matter. Then I moved back to India to live here for most of time and visited US every year for a few months. But my interest in the US Politics has always remained the same. I have watched President Barak Obama come into prominence form nowhere and was catapulted to the highest office in the country by the sheer force of his oratory. I have watched him function as The President during the past three years achieving nothing by him and taking credit for what with other has done. All this has bothered one and I decided to write the memories. I am writing this book without actually seeing what I am writing. Since I have done this writing work are my life and writing it has not been difficult—only keeping the lines straight has been.

The purpose of my writing this book is not to make money. This book is not meant for Political commentators or Pundit or Specialists but for the common people of the United States. In fact the position in India, the largest democracy of the world is no different. The elected representatives become the Rulers and thereafter, they look to then own interest first and then only anything else. I want the people to start questioning what they hear from them and exercise their own judgment while voting and let the candidates know that they cannot be taken for granted and that they have to fulfill their promises if elected otherwise there would be no second time. One glaring example of serving their own interest is the raise they have given themselves (in their salaries and perks) in the last few years. They did so with no dissenting vote. But does anybody remember when they voted to increase the minimum wage? In their views, the poor don’t need more money only the rich do.

If you look at the financed position of all the senators and you will find that each one of them is a multi-millionaire.

In the end that the views opinions and analysis, In this are my own, based on sheer common sense and have not been influenced or borrowed from
