      INTRODUCTION

      The Practical Mystic

      I am writing these words on the 111th birthday of Neville Goddard. In the years that have passed since Neville’s death in 1972, one might expect that this boldly experimental mystic, who independently published his books under only his first name, would have been forgotten. But, in fact, Neville’s ideas are reaching more people today than during his lifetime. This condensation one of his earliest books, Your Faith Is Your Fortune, is a perfect entry point for those just discovering Neville, and a refresher for longtime admirers.

      Neville’s key principle is so radical, so audacious, so at odds with everything we’ve been raised to believe that many serious people immediately want to argue with it. It is this: The human imagination is God. This God-power within you is constantly outpicturing your thoughts into reality. Your mental and emotive states literally define your life.

      Neville argued this principle in more than ten books and thousands of lectures. Part of his gift as a writer, lecturer, and thinker was his capacity to continually and elegantly restate his thesis without it once seeming stale or familiar. Whenever Neville stepped to the podium or put pen to paper, he seemed to be expressing his ideas for the first time, finding alluring illustrations and fresh methods.

      Another appeal of Neville’s claim is that it is completely testable. As you are about to experience, Neville challenges his audience at every step to test the principle that your thoughts and feeling states create your reality.
