    Look, Mommy! Morgan said, holding her blueberry bush out for her mother to see.

    It's a stick, her doi-doi brother, Colin, said. He was only six, and though he was cute, he was still a pest.

    It's a blueberry bush, she said, cradling the roots wrapped in soil and a napkin in the palms of her hands.

    It's a stick, Colin repeated.

    Moh-ohm, Morgan whined.

    Colin, her mother warned, let's hear your sister out.

    Miss Blanche gave it to us. It's 'opposed to be our science project.

    "Supposed to be, and what are you supposed to do with it?"

    We have to plant it, take care of it, and take pictures of its growth. Then we can make blueberry pancakes and take pictures of that.

    I like blueberry pancakes, Colin said. He yoinked the bush from her hands, pointed the tip of it at her, waved it, and said, Allohah grow-um.

    Moh-ohm, Morgan whined again.

    Her mother took the bush from Colin and gave it back to her. Colin, her mother warned, that's Morgan's stick—I mean, blueberry bush.

    I just wanted it to help it grow, Colin pouted. I like blueberry pancakes, too, he said, barely above a whisper. Colin was always doing things like that, trying things out he saw on television as if he didn't know the stuff he watched wasn't real. As if people like Flash and Supergirl actually existed in real life.

    I want to plant it.

    Her mother looked at her watch. Your father should be home soon. Maybe he can help with that.
