WHY ANNAPOLIS?
annapolis2-1024x685If you’re a history buff and like the feeling of stepping back in time,
you’ll love Annapolis as it boasts more surviving 18th Century buildings than any other city in the United States.
Visitors to Annapolis experience a town that has changed very little since it was a Colonial seaport. Located at the mouth of the Severn River on the Chesapeake Bay, this historic city was the temporary capital of the United States from 1783-1784.
Architects and fans of historical architecture love Annapolis for its wealth of examples of Victorian and other 19th Century architectural styles including Beaux-Arts, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Craftsman, and American Foursquare styles of the 20th Century.
In 1966, the U.S. Department of the Interior named the historic downtown as the country’s first National Historic Landmark District. In 2005, Annapolis was listed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations.
Annapolis was home to four signers of the Declaration of Independence. Signers William Paca, Samuel Chase, and Charles Carroll lived in Annapolis in 1776 while Thomas Stone moved to the city in the 1780s.

is buried in a crypt beneath the sanctuary of the Naval
