About this ebook

Our search begins at birth, and the odyssey ceases... well, we don't know when.  The answers are often hard come by, or, not at all; many times, the quest's resolution is not the response we may have wished for.  Consider this joust something more to attempt to tilt, to champion, as if, perhaps, a poetic pinball game.

Retirement has provided the opportunity to take the plunge I have longed for-- to immerse myself in the waters of creative writing. Whether torpedoed, or not, it is a mental medium that may prevent torpidity from setting in.

    Quizotic Journey - D. Lionberger

    Above San Diego Bay

    ––––––––

    Enjoying the view,

    stars’ display above

    and, aurora-like,

    city reflected in bay.

    Minding the sights,

    tittering, too,

    in stealth mode.

    Imagine our surprise,

    when we saw zigzagging above

    and tripping throughout

    the starry night sky,

    a red light in flight,

    moving rapidly,

    turning sharply, many times,

    at ninety degree angles,

    as if a laser pointer,

    on a blackboard,

    before they were sold,

in spite of the bright moon.

    We both bore witness

    to this baffling phenomenon

from the base of a seawall,

    hidden, below the road,

    on a small Coronado beach.

    Going fishing we called it.

    San Diego city's night lights,

    fluidly psychedelic,

    kaleidoscopically reflected

    off of the choppy bay.

    Exhaling, sharply,

    losing some smoke,

    lids opened wide

as we watched the heavenly show.

What the hell did we see,

    moving through the night sky?

    Still, filled with wonder,

    but, not doubt,

    I still trust my eyes.

    A Renaissance

    ––––––––

The tree that survives the storm,

though bough bared and branches broken,

    grows taller, stronger,

to better sway with the wind.
