A Devotional Book "Whispering Oaks" - N.W. Boyer

    Introduction

he oak branches lay low, touching the ground in several places. As high as the eye can see the stronger limbs reach toward the sky. They seem to be reaching out to their Creator with a shout

of praise, even though inaudible. Perhaps the oaks also listen to the whispers and thoughts of the men and women God created as they stand below the branches. They may have prayed to know God better...as do we. Perhaps if the oaks could speak, they would tell us to lift our hearts like their great branches to Almighty God and Christ His Son. Yet they remain silent, only to listen. What would we want the oaks to tell us if they could speak?

I will share some of my own experiences and pray that your life may be enriched, if only by a whisper. . Each day’s message will have a deeper meaning to be shared as you read this book daily to think through your life and future. Through stories, Holy Scripture and prayers, we will fill our souls with God’s love and care now and for the 31 days to come.

    About the Author

N.W. Boyer is a Christian author who is retired as an educator in the State of Florida. Since retiring, she has traveled the world teaching short-term in faraway places like Mongolia and Ukraine. With blessings from her husband, Bill Boyer who is an Episcopal priest, she has also spent time in Guatemala on Christian missions. Taking high school students to Europe several time where they visited places like Auschwitz Concentration Camp and learned of the cultures of many nations, was a life changing experience. On arriving back in the U.S.A. and with the help of special donors, she presented every school in Lake County, Florida with grade appropriate materials on World War II and the death camps. Holocaust survivors and veterans of the war spent time one on one with her students sharing their stories. She believes they will never forget these experiences. More recently, Nancy and her husband have interviewed veterans in Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains and compiled their stories in order that the future generations may know their great sacrifices for our freedom. Bill Boyer is a retired Christian chaplain with the U.S. Navy.

    ALWAYS A BEGINNING

veryone and everything has a beginning. The great oaks started as a small acorn seed. When I look at my baby carriage, shown in the next picture, I know that someone carefully placed me there to stroll me

about. That carriage has meaning because somehow it ended up in my Uncle Archie’s old workshop. It wasn’t until my husband, Bill, r escued it and restored it to an almost new carriage. The maker of that style asked for it to be placed in their museum, but I wasn’t going to part with it. There are memories connected to our childhood. For some those memories are marvelous and to be cherished. For others, they are difficult.

From that first breathe of life, your beginning started. Fresh and new, your personality and talents began to form. You may ask, What talents? Oh, yes, there are many just waiting to surface. Some form early with careful training. Some are laying at rest beneath your surface, just waiting to be discovered. Think about it. What have you always wanted to do? Now is the time to set your path in that direction. Early in my life I attended a boarding school in North Carolina. There, Mrs. Tollison, taught me piano. Getting me to practice was no problem, for if I could not be found I would be at the piano. Piano lessons suddenly all came to an end when I moved back home with my Mother.
