      I haven't read any other books in this series, but it still seemed to work. I liked that the heroine was a tortured and tormented as the hero for once but it made for a very dark novel. This is not a light and fluffy read, but rather an intense ride of a book. I believed the characters, I like that she forgave him for doing something that many would find legitamately unforgiveable, because she immediately understood that he was being blackmailed and that the cost of not doing it was too high. I liked both their pain and their pragmatism. Of course they were botha bit superheroish in their physical abilities and pain tolerances, but this is not by any means realism. In the heightened world of erotic t hrillers, everything made perfect sense and worked. I'd recommend it.

      Tamara Steele has finally found some peace in her life until the threats from her past resurface. Val Janos is the PSS agent hired to locate Tam for one of her former “beaus” but finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. Unfortunately, Novak learns that Tam is still alive and his obsession with revenge is about to throw both Val and Tam’s lives into turmoil.

      I had high hopes for Ultimate Weapon as Tam’s character has always intrigued me. Unfortunately, neither Tam nor Val are particularly appealing characters. He is damaged and manipulative, and she is cold and distant. The end result is an unrealistic and disturbing relationship lacking in any positive connection or emotion.

      The suspense plot fails to gain momentum and there is an underlying darkness to both Tam and Val’s pasts that overshadow everything else. The McClouds and other recurring characters barely put in an appearance, which is disappointing as their camaraderie is one of the best aspects of the series.

      Hopefully, the series will get back on track with Kevin’s book, which is next up.
