Great read. I met Kruse once at a frisbee golf event. We hit it off right away. He talked to me a little about what he does, and it came up that he had written a few books. I didn't think much of it at first, but when I checked out his works, I was honestly blown away. He downplays himself bigtime. This is another one of his classic works that I tell my friends and fam about, because I know they would benefit by it!

Ten Ways to Make Sure You Never Overcome Anxiety - C J Kruse

Prologue.

––––––––

Welcome.  Before we begin, let me start by mentioning a few scenarios, and seeing if you find any similarities between them.  They are:

A first date. A job interview. A work presentation or public speaking event. Do you see what they have in common?  Perhaps you've noticed that they aren't very similar, except for the fact that they stress many of us out, just thinking of them.

If the thought of any of these situations, or situations like these leaves you with sweaty palms, blurred vision or weak knees, then there’s a good chance that anxiety may be ruining your life.

Anxiety has been linked to the fear response in our brains that alert us to potentially dangerous situations, and give us an adrenaline boost to aid the fight or flight response. While this response is helpful when it comes to escaping life threatening situations, it serves no productive purpose in common modern day environments, like the confines of an office presentation or the dinner date that you take your long-time crush on.  In these situations, such responses yield unwanted results, like the shaking hands that spill a drink on your date’s sweater, or the mile-a-minute speech that leaves your audience confused.

The physical and emotional symptoms of anxiety can undermine work performance, sabotage your dating life, and create a bad impression with new acquaintances. They can gnaw away at your confidence, both in your knowledge and your abilities.

So, in this short book, we have provided you with ten rules that you’ll have to break if you want to rid yourself of anxiety.  The rules are simple, and are as follows:

––––––––

RULE #1 - DO NOT ADMIT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

RULE #2 - DO NOT SEEK HELP.

RULE #3 - ISOLATE YOURSELF.

RULE #4 - IGNORE THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP.

RULE #5 - IGNORE THE IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISE.

RULE #6 - MAINTAIN A STEADY INTAKE OF JUNK FOOD.

RULE #7 - NEGLECT YOUR LIVING SPACE.

RULE #8 - AVOID DIFFICULT SITUATIONS.

RULE #9 - IGNORE ALL RELATED ISSUES.

RULE #10 - AVOID RELAXATION.

So, without further ado, let’s begin with:

RULE #1 –

DO NOT ADMIT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

––––––––

Anxiety is an issue experienced by many people, particularly during times of excessive stress. But while it may be normal to be anxious about certain things, it stops being normal when it is continually disproportionate to the situation, or when worry becomes too pervasive and consistent.

To start, we should talk about the numerous types of anxiety disorders that exist.  Some of them include:

Phobias.

Panic attacks.

OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder).

PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder).

GAD (Generalized anxiety disorder).

Social anxiety.

It is estimated that as much as 30 percent of the adult population in North America experiences some form of anxiety disorder in their lifetime, with anxiety affecting about 17 million to 19 million American adults every year. But of that figure, up to one third are undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or never seek help for their anxiety issues.

This means that 10 percent of the overall adult population in North America do not know they have issues with anxiety, and are therefore not getting the help they need.

Reasons for this may include:

1) Resisting diagnosis for fear of stigmatization.

2) Mistaking symptoms for other medical conditions.

3) Adopting anxiety as a personality trait, and laughing it off.

Let’s look at number one on this list, which is:

1) Fear of stigmatization.

This is a very real fear for anyone with a mental health condition, regardless of its severity. The bottom line is; nobody wants to feel like they are experiencing problems with things that so-called normal
