Her SEAL to Slay Dragons
Prologue
Jason Maddox narrowed his eyes on Evie Pennyworth as she strolled out of the women's washroom at the back of the Rooster's Whistle bar. Pleased as can be and as casually as ever, she looked like a pixie vixen with her mass of peanut-colored hair piled atop her head with nothing less than her thong.
Oh, for fuck's sake. Maddox bit down on his jaw. In barely two months, the woman had snuck under his radar and heightened every protective instinct in his SEAL-trained body. He tracked her as she threaded her way through the crush of people, smiling as if it was a Sunday morning stroll down Main Street.
Unbelievable. Her head was way too full of her fruity girly drinks, with her pert ass tucked into that way-too-short dress, hips swaying as she sashayed throughout the bar. Her trim height propped up on the classiest pair of come-fuck-me-heels he'd ever seen, and now she saunters out lookin' hotter than ever, golden skin all fresh-faced and flushed. Everything about her screamed girl-next-door in need of a good lay.
Jason watched her sit back down with the squealing and giggling women. There was going to be a fight in this bar tonight. He glanced at the cluster or men in the back eyeing the boisterous table of ladies. Her girlfriend's bachelorette party was totally out of control, hootin' and hollerin' at the boy band's caterwauling, their peals of laughter echoing off the walls as they danced with each other and waved their arms, three of them throwing rolled-up bills at the smirking guitarists and lead singer. Thank fuck they were all too drunk to notice Evie's thong in her hair, else these women would yank off their own, right there in the open and throw them on stage.
This why you dragged me all the way out here?
Georgeman, Jason's teammate, plunked down two beers before he straddle a chair. There are better bars back in Onyx County. Leave it to you to search out the most backwoods place in Virginia. You know I can't stomach these redneck-turned-hipster mama's boys.
Maddox lifted the side of his mouth as he scanned the crush of patrons, particularly the young asshats Georgeman referred to in the far corner. The lot of them were supposedly playing pool, though not one of them knew one end of a cue from the other. Fucking idiots couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag for drooling as they stalked the bachelorette table.
Maddox sat forward and took a healthy gulp of his beer. Two of the women at the table jumped up and started grinding together to the new music set, arms raised and screeching, when a third one joined in, dragging Evie into their fray. With her hair in that high flying ponytail bouncing down her naked back, her barely there dress showed way too much of her deeply caramel-hued skin. Every time she threw up her hands and circled her hips, the bottom of her skirt rose to a dangerous, revealing level.
Maddox lifted the side of his mouth and shoot his head as he watched her try and subtly tug down her hem.
Quite a party. I can only imagine the wedding.
Georgeman leaned over and nodded toward the pool table. Think we should do something 'bout them?
Maddox drank more of his beer. The girls are taking care of themselves so far.
He glanced at the bride-to-be, the ringleader of the bunch. Jesse-May Andrews was in the reserves and set to marry a local heir, Ian Duncan, the third. If she couldn't kick the ass of any trouble that found her, the Duncan's money tree would.
Her friend is kind of cute.
Georgeman nodded to Evie's friend, Tori, now using a wine bottle as a microphone to sing along with the band.
Maddox shook his head, then frowned as the men from the corner circled in on the table. Two of the women immediately turned and started dancing with them; another one accepted a drink handed to her while Tori passed her wine bottle microphone to Evie as she allowed herself to be danced into the line that was forming.
Maddox watched Evie slide through the crowd toward his table.
My cue,
Georgeman smiled and picked up his beer and headed toward the gyrating line aimed at circling the bar.
Maddox looked back, just as Evie sat down on his lap. Imagine seeing you here? I didn't think the army ever let you off that leash they keep you on.
Navy,
he corrected. She draped herself across his lap and started singing into the wine bottle. And apparently, they do.
She sat up and put her arms around his neck, laying her head on his shoulder. Please don't let any of those boys take me home,
she whispered in his ear.
His jaw tightened. They won't.
He balanced her between his hands as she swayed. I'll be the only one taking you home tonight.
Thank you.
She held onto his dog tags and smiled up at him. We hardly ever speak, but you're my knight in army armor.
Navy,
he corrected her again. I'm in the Navy, Kitten.

Chapter ONE
Nice shit to be a kid again...
Maddox watched the primary level play yard doors as they slammed open and a pile of running and screaming six-year-olds came tearing out of the school in full jailbreak style.
Guys!
Evie called and came charging out behind them. It's not our turn using the climber!
Maddox locked eyes with her before he started his final sequential scan of the immediate area and begun his sentry turn on the yard. As guard team leader, he needed to make formal visual contact with the first duty teacher outside before he turned his back and faced the tree-lined field that surrounded the playground. It wasn't because he needed his morning hit of seeing Evie or anything like that. She was a seasoned teacher used to the official routines and transitions of the formal school day, and he was a veteran SEAL. If he knew anything, it was formality and discipline. Right now, his duty was to protect everyone in this private Navy school as part of his recovery from his last mission. Being on guard for Evie was strictly business. Nothing personal.
Guys!
Evie nodded to him before she raced after the boys, waving her arms,
