About this ebook
War is nothing new to the wealthy Kingdom of Mystonia but this time it’s different. Enemies on their three main borders have joined forces and strike at once, forcing the Mystonian soldiers to scatter and pull back. Princess Muriel soon finds herself the last royal member standing and knows the fate of the kingdom lies in her hand. When all seems lost, she turns to their peaceful neighbors in the north and a mythical race that no one besides her and her Royal Knight have ever seen. Will they help and if they do, are they capable of violence? The future of Mystonia rests with those answers.
NOTE TO READER: This story contains approximately 7,100 words.

Hi there :) So you've decided you want to learn a little more about me, have you? Well, then, let me take you on an all expenses paid tour of my life - skipping all the boring details of course! I've been writing since elementary school, scratching out silly little stories on notebook paper when I should have been paying attention in class. Thankfully my family encouraged this obsession with the written word although I suspect they would have been less than pleased to learn how I spent my school days if they'd ever found out. I eventually graduated to spiral notebooks before eventually moving - kicking and screaming - to typing directly onto the computer screen. The journey of life slowed my dream for quite a while but I've finally reached a point where I can pursue it again. An avid fan of the general fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal fantasy, science fiction, and young adult genres, my characters would drive me crazy if I didn’t let them out to play fairly regularly. I always have stuff in the works (see my Works in Progress page for details) and hopefully you'll see more of my stories soon. I reside in North Carolina with my wife, daughter, and a menagerie of pets, all of whom keep life interesting. When I'm not writing, I enjoy reading, watching movies, hiking, crafting jewelry, and dabbling in decorative painting.

Princess Muriel stood at the castle window, hands grasping the rough iron bars. She was able to see quite a distance from her central tower location. As her gaze swept over the horizon, she surveyed the vast lands of her rugged kingdom with a sense of sadness.
Terraced farmsteads were laid out on the slopes of the mountain range which she called home. Each level had taken years of hard labor to craft. Time was spent moving stones of all sizes, and nurturing the soil until it was fertile. Now, war threatened their very existence.
Closing her eyes, she rested her forehead against the bars and listened to the faint sounds of her castle as they floated up to her. Happy voices of children playing, the bustle of staff, and the shouts of knights as they trained. All normal. Beyond the stone outer-walls, she knew the atmosphere was tense. Farmers worked hard, despite the threat of violence hanging over their heads.
Her reprieve was broken by a shout and she glanced down. A guardsman on the wall pointed outward. Following his line of sight, Muriel watched a cloud of dust fill the air, far-off in the distance. Gasping softly, she worked to control her breathing and still the pounding of her heart. Finally, she peeled her pale fingers from their grip on the metal.
There is news from the front,
she murmured to the empty air. She left the room and hurried toward the War Chamber, her footsteps slapping
