The “Craftsman”

All is not as it seems before you. What appears to be a superb restoration of a Twenties Miller Indy car is no such thing. It’s virtually all brand-new and handcrafted in the style of a Twenties’ Miller. Owner and creator Larry Houghton says: “It is a tribute to Harry Miller, to engineering and to all those old boys who used to stand at lathes all day long, like I’ve done for 40 years.”

Larry, now 62, has been involved in engineering for nearly all of his working life. From humble beginnings working out of his dad’s garage, he has built up a successful company, Lamb Engineering, not too far from Salisbury, which currently employs eight people. He says: “We specialise in the sort of engineering jobs and ‘one-offs’ that often nobody else wants to do.” He adds: “But we aren’t motor engineers.” However, Larry has made quite a name for himself in the motorcycle world for building exquisitely detailed multi-award winning custom bikes, which he does as a hobby.
