About this ebook

When he was five years old, Chad V. Holtkamp declared he wanted to be a songwriter like John Denver.

Like many things a child says, it was quickly replaced by some other occupation, like being a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals.

At seventeen, Chad wrote his first song. Over the course of the next dozen years, he went on to write many more sets of lyrics, along with a litany of poems and other ideas.

From the yearning sadness of "Life is Precious" and "Someday" to the silly fun of "Summer Day" and "The Party," to the sweet seduction of "Blue Dress" and "Desire," Chad's writing explored relateable themes of love and loss, and sometimes, pure happiness.

Check out Lyrics, Poems & Other Odd Bits, the third and final volume of the From the Vault Music Series, his collected works all in one place.

Lyrics, Poems & Other Odd Bits - Chad V. Holtkamp

    1

    Life is Precious

    Taken away one dark afternoon

    We never even said goodbye

All that I had but it wasn’t to be I dreamed you are back

It hurt so much to let you go

I’ve been lost since you’ve been gone

    Lasting friendships suddenly ended

For you I wrote this song

Life can seem like a cruel joke

It is very sad but true

All the joy can slip away

As you will probably find out soon

You missed out in life ‘cause you were robbed of the chance

I wish you could see today

That’s because life is different now

Yet so much is still the same

Things were so much simpler then I never thought it would end

But on that fateful day long ago My world crashed down on me

Life can seem like a cruel joke

It is very sad but true

All the joy can slip away

As you will probably find out all too soon

    Taken away one dark afternoon

    We never even said goodbye

    Heaven and Hell

    Heaven is a place

    Eternal land of peace

    Hell is just the opposite

    Eternal land of pain

    We spend all our lives

    Waiting for the moment

    Then one day it happens

    Our time is no more

    Heaven and hell

    Heaven and hell

    Life’s the quest for these

    Everyone chooses their own

    By the lives they lead

    People say they’ve been there

    Then come back alive

    I really don’t believe it

It’s all a pack of lies

If you go then there you stay

    Not for just a moment

    But for all eternity

    Heaven and hell

    Heaven and hell

    Life’s the quest for these

    Everyone chooses their own

    By the lives they lead

    There are several ways in

    But no way out

We have never been through it

So we don’t know what it’s about

There we stand in front of Him

    Our judgement we must face

    Confusion

    Life is full of confusion

Where to go and what to do

To live it up or live it down

Be a rich man or a poor man

What to be what not to
