      FOREWORD

      A book dealing with the Pharmacognosy of Powdered Crude Drugs is a long felt necessity. As the desire to have indigenous drugs is growing in developing countries, all the available crude drugs have got to be identified and analysed.

      A very strenuous effort has been made by the author to collect all the data that is necessary to make a publication of this type useful to the students of Pharmacy. Dr. Iyengar has shown that the subject that he has dealt with is not so easy as many people think. I have at random gone through some pages here and there and I have no hesitation in saying that the pharmacists will find this book very useful as it will enable them to carry on efforts in this direction for better and more productive purpose. This book which I understand is the first of its kind in India, gives correct and exact characters of identification stated in clear, simple language intelligible even to those who have no previous knowledge of this subject. Dr. Iyengar, on account of his studies both in India and also in Germany, has developed a new approach to make the subject presentable
