    'Our Lady of the Pillar' is a historical fiction novel penned by the Portuguese author Eça de Queiroz. Set in Segovia, the story follows the pious Don Ruy de Cardenas, a young knight who visits the Church of Our Lady of the Pillar every day. Across the square from his house is the palace of the wealthy nobleman Don Alonso de Lara, who is married to the beautiful Donna Leonor. Don Ruy falls in love with Donna Leonor at first sight and spends a week waiting for her to leave the palace. This novel explores themes of love, faith, and the destructive power of jealousy.
