Introduction
If you have recently moved to a hurricane vulnerable area or are among the large percentage of property owners or residents living in a coastal area, you could lie in the path of a potentially life-threatening hurricane. This book is a must-read for you because hurricanes are serious business. Proper preparation can save your life, the lives of your loved ones, and your pet. The planet is currently in a weather pattern that annually packs a real punch to our coastline and inland areas. If your stomach tightens a little on June first each year, and you breathe a sigh of relief on November thirtieth (hopefully without a hurricane strike), then this ninety-minute read, and resource has been written for you.
Information and preparation are crucial to surviving these extreme tropical weather onslaughts. Loads of information is posted on countless internet websites detailing how to get ready for a tropical storm or oncoming hurricane. While researching this book, I combed through tens of thousands of excellent web pages. It was exhausting and time-consuming. It was also nothing I would care to be doing as a hurricane was churning its way toward me.
This book drills down the most relevant information I found into bullet points and lists. Included is a checklist of twelve ‘must-do’ actions to complete by June first when Hurricane Season begins. This checklist also outlines in detail proactive steps, conversations decisions you need to begin making. It also includes a checklist for pre-stocking your storm supply cupboard. These step-by-step preparations are for you to refer to, and use on an as-needed, ongoing basis as a hurricane approaches your coast.
As tropical storms progress toward your location, the next four lists (Emergency Car Kit, Hurricane Plan Outline, Shelter Supply List and Emergency Pet Supply List) may or may not come into play. At the very least, you have them to mark off as you complete them. Yes, take your pen out and write in this book or take e-book notes on your device. I have also included a section about your three most significant insurance policies, your insurance adjuster, Water Mitigation Services, Public Adjusters, and the best hurricane apps to download ahead of a storm.
Detailed information about hurricane storm systems, explanations for the lists and first-hand accounts by hurricane survivors are the framework of this book. A Glossary and Index of Acronyms are in the back of the book to help you decipher what the newscasters are referring to in their broadcasts. A prayer is included at the end because I have found most people cry out to God during these extreme circumstances. If you don’t know what to say to Him, this prayer will benefit
