    BACK FOR MORE!

FIT, FAST AND RARING TO GO, THESE TEAM U.S.A. VETERANS ARE LOOKING TO MATCH OR BETTER THEIR PAST OLYMPIC PERFORMANCES. BRING IT ON, RIO!

NEW PARTNERS Walsh Jennings (at left, above and below) and Ross have won multiple tournaments. Ross has also inspired Walsh Jennings to tweak their lucky bikini routine. April likes to wear Sunday whites, Walsh Jennings, who used to don all black in finals, once told SI. A lot of finals are on Sunday, so white is the new black for me.

    KERRI WALSH JENNINGS

    37, BEACH VOLLEYBALL – 2004, 2008, 2012

    AKA: 6 FEET OF SUNSHINE

Her three golds with Misty May-Treanor made Walsh Jennings half of her sport’s most dominant team. But with her former partner retired, Walsh Jennings is making another Olympic run with a former rival, 2012 silver medalist April Ross. While she has said, I miss Misty every day, the mom of three (who was pregnant at the London Games) is having fun with Ross. She’s wonderful, she told People. We’re working our butts off. I don’t know how many more Olympics I have in me, so I’m cherishing all of it.

    APRIL ROSS

    33, BEACH VOLLEYBALL – 2012

    PAST PARTNER: JENNIFER KESSY

After she joined forces with Walsh Jennings in 2013, Ross told Sports Illustrated the pairing brought new life to everything.’’ Plus, Ross (who’s married to AVP pro volleyballer Brad Keenan) admits it’s kind of nice to be the favorite for once. It’s the first time," she told the Daily Trojan, the newspaper at her alma mater, USC, that I haven’t been any kind of an underdog. It’s crazy to have everyone trying to knock you off all the time.

    GABBY DOUGLAS

    20, GYMNASTICS – 2012

    SECRET TALENT: BOWLING

Now 3½ in. taller than she was in London, Douglas (goofing off on Instagram, below) says to train for Rio, I switched my diet. Before it was like, ‘Yeah, candy!’ Now I eat more protein and healthy stuff.

    #ROADTORIO

Gabby Douglas was 16 when she won the individual all-around, but in Rio she would be one of the senior members of her team.

Where do you keep your gold medal?

It’s in L.A. My sisters have it.

    Is training for Rio different?

Yes! Experience counts—you know what to expect, what to do and what not to do. It’s helped me pace myself.

Will it be hard, do you think, to defend your title?

I’m not going to lie: The whole comeback thing has been a little challenging. But I’m expecting a good competition [at trials].

    How are you feeling?

The consistency and the confidence level can be a little more there, but other than that I am feeling pretty confident.

Besides winning, what are you hoping to do in Rio?

    Go to the beach!

    ALY RAISMAN

    22, GYMNASTICS – 2012

    HOBBIES: SHOPPING, HOT YOGA

HI, MOM! Raisman says training means, I’m in the gym at least 30 hours a week. Her parents get it: Her mom (together, below, in 2014) is a former gymnast, and her dad, Rick, played hockey. I wouldn’t have it any other way, because I want to make that Olympic team more than anything.

Raisman’s parents got their own turn in the spotlight when a video of them nervously (and hilariously) squirming during their daughter’s uneven-bars routine went viral. The 2012 team captain was joined by her mom, Lynn Faber Raisman, for a chat.

When did you realize you were raising a future Olympian?

LFR: She started competing when she was 8, but somewhere around 2009, I was like, Oh, she’s on the national team. This is more than I expected.

AR: And when I yelled at you when I was 10.

LFR: We were watching Carly Patterson in the all-around in 2004, and I was so nervous for her, even though I didn’t know her. I said, Oh my God, I’m so glad you’re not at this level, and she screamed at me: ‘What are you talking about? I’m going to the Olympics!’ I was like, Oh, okay!

    AR: She didn’t believe me.

LFR: I didn’t think we would be here. I still can’t believe it. It’s crazy!

    ASHTON EATON

    28, DECATHLON – 2012

    NICKNAME: WHEELS

WHAT MAKES A DECATHLON? Over two days in 2012, Eaton earned the most total points (8,869) in (clockwise from top left) shot put, high jump, 110-meter hurdles, 1,500 meters, 400 meters (46.90 seconds), long jump (8.03 meters), discus
